Winter Gear

Last Minute Gifts for Her from Backcountry

fleece | vest | hat | boots | leggings (similar)

Last weekend, I shared that Kevin and I were out exploring our neighborhood on a cool 15º morning. A majority of you thought we were crazy, but those of you who are local to Minne know that’s just normal – haha! Winter doesn’t stop us from getting out and enjoying our weekends, no matter how cold it is! Something I love about living in the Cities is how there are gorgeous trails and parks around every turn. This spot is only a few blocks from our new house and is just as gorgeous in the Winter as it is in the Summer.

That being said, we definitely layered up a bit more than we would’ve during the Summer! I’ve been eyeing this Patagonia T-Snap Fleece + Vest from Backcountry for YEARS and finally decided to grab both as an early Christmas gift to myself. Getting new Winter gear for Christmas was a regular occurrence in our house growing up (as I’m sure it is in every Northern household). We would inevitably grow out of our cold weather gear or have a mitten/hat that needed replacing! This fleece + my vest make the perfect combo for those chilly days. They’re a super warm combo (I layered a long-sleeve under my fleece and had no issues!). And, they’re fashionable without being bulky! For reference, I’m wearing S in both. Would definitely size UP in the fleece – it runs small!

And, I finally picked up a new color in my favorite snow boots. If you don’t have these Sorel boots, what are you waiting for?! The”camel brown” color was a November bestseller. So many of you girlies love these boots just as much as I do! I grabbed a black pair so I’d have an excuse to wear them with more outfits (lol). My sister has them in grey and loves them just as much as we do! During our walk, I trekked through 6-9 inches of snow and had no issues. My feet stayed perfectly warm and comfortable – these babies are MN winter approved! Also, per follower recs I ended up sizing up .5 in this pair and have MUCH more room for socks. Would recommend sizing up .5!

I also picked up a fleece lined beanie, which in my opinion is a winter necessity! I had one all through college and loved it so much I even made my friend Brian crawl under someone’s porch to find it after I lost it once – lol! If that’s not dedication to the cozy cause, I don’t know what is!

I’m super excited because Backcountry has graciously given me a discount code to share with all of YOU! You can get 15% off your first purchase on (exclusions apply) with code LOMEYER15. How cool is that?! Time to stock up on more Sorel boots & Patagonia fleeces – haha!

Backcountry is my go to spot for grabbing my outdoor gear. They have the biggest selection of brands, a huge range of sizes and great sales year round! Plus you can’t beat their free 2-day shipping for orders over $50! They still have SO many gifts that will arrive in time for 12/24. I’ve included some of my favorite gifts for her below. Lots of you said Sorel Boots and a Patagonia/Northface was on your list. With my discount code, now is the perfect time to treat yourself or that loved one in your life!

Happy Holiday shopping friends!

Affordable Winter Gear from Walmart

jacket | jeans | turtleneck | boots

Winter is officially here in Minne! Feels like we’re getting 5 inches of snow every other day and the temps just keep dropping. Growing up in the North, I know the importance of warm winter gear! I also know that it can cost an arm and leg (and most of your paycheck) to stock up for the winter. I was super happy to find that Walmart had a ton of great affordable coats, boots and accessories so that I could brave the temps without spending a fortune!

I picked up this puffer jacket (on sale for $16) last month and have been wearing it ever since! I really put it to good use this past week when our temps dropped to the single digits. Happy to say I stayed perfectly warm even though I was only wearing a thin turtleneck underneath. I also grabbed these winter boots. They look like other pairs I’ve seen that go for $250+ but only cost $34!! They’re going quickly, but this pair is almost identical, and I love the fair isle print on the side!

Walmart has really become my one stop shop for all things fashion related lately (if you couldn’t tell by my blog and Instagram outfit posts, lol!). They have SO many cute new arrivals weekly and everything is so affordable + great quality. In case you missed it, they have a ton of great event wear for the holidays right now. I shared a big round up of it here and an outfit on my Instagram last night. Oh, and if you need last minute gifts don’t forget about their 2-day shipping for orders $35+!!

I’ve included more Walmart winter gear below!

The Best of Winter Sales of 2018

Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog wraps up the Best Winter Sales of 2018

I know the topic of this post may seem cruel, but I promise I’m writing this in response to the results from my Instagram poll! I asked if you guys wanted to see a roundup of some great Winter sales, and the answer was yes! The fact that we’ve been pummeled by snowstorms, as mentioned in the last post, is pure coincidence. I swear!

Today, I’ve gathered some amazing sale items that are sure to go quickly. So if you spot something you want, grab it now before it’s gone! Items that are likely to go super quickly are the coats and boots given they are majorly marked down! I’m listing some alternatives for both categories down below in case the ones in the collage are sold out. As always, you can click on the collage image to shop the product. Or, you can click on the corresponding number below the collage photo. I’m also detailing my top 3 picks at the bottom!

Winter Boots

Good quality winter boots at a good price are hard to come by. Especially at the beginning of the season. That’s why purchasing good boots now and storing them away for next Fall/Winter (or using them now during a Spring snowstorm, haha!) is an excellent idea! These Sperry’s from DSW are a classic style that was everywhere this winter and aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon. Retailing full price at $99 but on sale for $79.98, you’re saving a good chunk of change by buying these now. In the case that they’re sold out, this pair of Sorel’s is also 30% off!

Winter Jacket

It took Kevin YEARS to find a good winter jacket. Why? Because he’s as frugal as they come and always waited to look for one until November/December. The key to getting a good jacket at a good price is to buy them when the season is coming to an end (AKA now!). This coat from Bloomingdales is currently 25% off (in cart) but sizes are going quickly! If your size is out, this one is a good alternative, and I love this one for a dressier winter coat!

A Nice Sweater

Sure, there are a lot of trends that I can’t guarantee are gonna be around next Fall. But, a good quality v-neck is always in style. And, getting cashmere for under $35 should be a crime. If you’re looking to treat yourself or invest in a good staple piece, picking up this cashmere sweater is a must! It’s seriously marked down and comes in so many colors so there’s something for everyone!

Now that I’ve rounded up the end of Winter sales, can Spring officially start? 😋

After a busy week, I’m ready to have a fun weekend! Kev and I plan to go out for a date night tonight! Tomorrow afternoon, I’m meeting up with a blogger friend, Taylor, from The Styled Press for brunch. And, on Sunday, I have another blogger brunch with my friend Emerson. Minneapolis has such a great blogger community, it’s been amazing to meet so many ambitious and confident women (and men!). Being around like-minded people is truly one of the best things about blogging!

What’re you up to this weekend? If you’re looking to do some shopping, Bloomingdales is having a huge sale with 25% off a ton of items! And, I just got notice that the twice-yearly Sephora Beauty Insider sale starts next weekend SO if you haven’t signed up for their rewards program, be sure to do so to save a ton of money on beauty items! Free to sign up, and I essentially do all of my beauty shopping for the year during these two sales! I’ll be rounding up the must haves at the end of next week!
