Why I stopped waxing and started shaving again

If you watch my stories, you’ll probably remember that monthly “need to wax my sasquatch legs” appointment I’ve had since February. I started waxing because I was so tired of constantly dealing with stubble and razor burn. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of self tanner on razor burn. And, since I typically shave right before tanning, I consider myself somewhat scarred from the many times my legs felt like they were on fire after shaving. So, I gave up shaving and started waxing!

What I loved about waxing is that I didn’t have to deal with razor burn, rarely got ingrown hairs and the hair took a solid 5-10 days to start to reappear. If you had told me last Spring there was a razor out there that could do pretty much the same thing, I’d have laughed. Truly, I thought spending $100/month on my wax membership was the only answer.

So when my friend Taylor texted me telling me I “had” to try this $9 razor I was skeptical. But also curious – I mean how often do your girlfriends text you about needing to try a razor, lol! So I gave it a try, very quickly cancelled my wax membership and haven’t looked back since. This little $9 razor not only gives me NO razor burn or ingrown hairs, it keeps me smooth for 4-5 days. And even then, I have only a mild stubble. With a traditional razor, I could feel stubble almost instantly because the shave was never close enough!

The Billie razor is made for and by women. That means it’s designed by gals who know a thing or two about needing to get the closest shave. It also costs a fraction of the price as drugstore razors (did you know women’s razors are typically 10-15% more than mens?!) and is made from quality ingredients. The five blade razor is encased in charcoal shave soap to help the razor glide over your skin (AKA – NO razor burn!). And, it’s made with all natural ingredients – no parabens, sulfates and it’s gluten free! I’ve mentioned before the harmful effects parabens and sulfates can have on the hair on your head. But, I never stopped to think that these could be in my razor leading to further irritation.

Let’s chat about price! I mentioned that the Billie razor is less than your drugstore one – much less. For $9 (+free ship!) you get a razor, mag(net)ic wall holder and two 5-blade cartridges. Once you sign up to receive your razor, you can select how frequently you want replacement blades. Billie will then deliver FOUR blade cartridges for only $9! You can cancel or skip a shipment whenever you want! I mean, ladies, $9 is the price of 1.5 Starbucks’ coffees. And, if it stops razor burn + keeps my skin smooth for 4-5 days, it’s really a no brainer!

I also picked up the Billie lotion and shaving cream! The shaving cream is heavily concentrated so you only need a little, and it helps the razor glide over your legs. It’s also very hydrating. You know that feeling when you get out of a shower after shaving and need to take a second bath just in lotion to avoid the alligator skin? Yeah, not gonna happen with the Billie shaving cream. But, in case you live in the North like me, they do have a body lotion that works wonders for our dry skin in these cooler months!

So, once a week (yes once) you can find me shaving with my new BFF, Billie! Here’s to being smooth ladies!

Good Morning Everyone!

Now that I’m doing two posts a week (for the time being), I feel like it’s been FOREVER since I’ve talked to you all! I hope you had a great weekend! We managed to brave the 90 degree temps (don’t laugh if you’re from the South – lol) and went to the Stone Arch Bridge Festival. It was so hot, and I definitely crashed when we got home!

Since Summer is moving at the speed of light, I’m sharing some 4th of July outfit inspiration today. But, seriously, where is Summer going?! This year will be the first time we won’t be home for the 4th. My parents are heading on a European river cruise for a few weeks so we’re staying in the Cities for the holiday. It’ll be weird not to do our usual thing, but we’re excited to explore the festivities in another city!

Both of these outfits contain key pieces under $30 and can easily be reused for future holidays (think Memorial day + future 4th of Julys too!). I’m also sharing some other 4th of July outfit ideas below that would be perfect if you’re looking for something a little different! A lot of those outfits can easily be repurposed for use throughout the summer!

If you’re spending the holiday at the lake, beach or pool:

Swimsuit | Shorts (sold out – similar) | Bag | Sandals | Necklace (sold out – similar) | Bracelets | Watch | Ring

This $30 swimsuit from Target is absolutely perfect for the 4th! It’s a classic design so you can reuse it for years to come. Plus, it looks super cute with shorts so can easily double as a bodysuit if you don’t actually plan on swimming for the holiday! I went with a size S, which is my typical one piece size and felt that it fit, but I could definitely have gone up one to have a bit more coverage overall. If you’re worried about one piece sizing, I would suggest going with what you typically get for bottoms to start (I’m usually a S bikini bottom and a M bikini top).

I also love this red one piece, which could be worn all summer long, and this bikini set (top, bottom)!

PS Target is having a BOGO 50% off sale for swimwear right now! If you’re needing a suit, now is the time to stock up! They’re already a great price and now they’re even cheaper.

Top | Shorts | Bag | Sandals | Earrings (sold out – similar) | Bracelets | Watch | Ring

There is a 100% chance you will see me rocking this exact outfit (or something very close to it) on the 4th! This $13 tank, also from Target, is another top that can easily be worn for future holidays! I love how it looks tucked into these $42 shorts from Nordstrom (size up one!). It also would look good knotted with a denim skirt or worn with jeans! I went with my typical XS, and it’s definitely an oversized fit. I like the fit, but if you want something tighter, I suggest sizing down.

If you’re looking for something a bit more flashy, I love this fun tank and this one, both are under $15!

And, just because these tanks are casual doesn’t mean your accessories have to be! Feel free to dress it up a bit with statement earrings like I have on here and wedges!

Summer Date Night Outfit & A Sweet Treat

Hello & Happy Wednesday Friends!

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite tops I purchased recently at Target. It was one of those “see it need it” type of tops and instantly made its way into my cart.

I absolutely love palm prints during Summer! But, as you all know, I’m also a neutral lover. Big bright colors aren’t usually my thing. So, I love that this top is a bit more muted and the colors aren’t too bright. The pink is the perfect shade to compliment most every skin tone, even if you’re not super tan. The peplum cut is also extremely flattering and perfect for wearing out to dinner (when you know you’ll have to hide the inevitable food baby – lol!). I did wear a strapless bra with mine, but it is lined up top so you could get away with not wearing one! In terms of size, I went with a XS and feel it fits TTS. It definitely works for petites and regulars! And, it’s only $20, so you can’t beat the price 🙌.

I styled this top with my fave white denim skinnies and these $30 heels for a perfect summer date night outfit. It also comes with a matching skirt that would make another cute date night outfit as well. My round Coconut Lane Melbourne from Brahmin is perfect for this look, but this straw bag in this post would also go really well too (and it’s under $70!). Also, I opted to keep my neckline clean to play up these $13 statement earrings I’ve been loving. I’m a bit obsessed with statement earrings right now and plan to do a roundup of them in a few weeks!

If you’re looking for a way to dress this top down, it would look super cute with denim shorts or white denim shorts too. You could also pair it with flats (like these or these) to make it more casual.

A few updates – Summer is in full swing and life is BUSY. I recently took a few days off of blogging completely. I did this a few weeks back but didn’t really let myself off the hook as in I was still checking emails, engaging/networking with others etc. Can’t say this is unusual, I’d like to thank my parents for my workaholic nature (lol!) 😋. But, I was able to truly disconnect thanks to the no-service we had in our campsite over the weekend. It gave me time to get a bigger picture view of my blog again and realign myself with some goals I had lost track of.

So, you may notice some changes in the coming weeks – I may not always do 3 blog posts a week as I take that time to instead make some changes and updates to my site as well as work on new marketing techniques. Although I have plenty of content now planned to fill 3 posts a week so we’ll see – may not be able to help myself! I also am changing how I edit photos. This is something I’ve been wanting to change for quite some time but couldn’t figure out an editing style that I felt was distinctly me. After playing with Lightroom for the last 2 days, I’ve finally found a solid way of editing that I think represents my brand the way I want. Which makes me SO excited to edit photos again (something I had kind of lost the spark of recently).

Lastly, I shared a video of some cinnamon sugar muffins I made last night on my Instagram stories and had SO many messages asking for the recipe! SO, I though it’d be easiest for me to share it here for you! I adapted this recipe from Delicious As It Looks . Just a little background – I am currently doing a low-fodmap diet to see what food sensitivities I have. So, this recipe is gluten & dairy free!

Originally Recipe from Delicious As It Looks HERE

Donut Muffins
makes 24 mini muffins OR 9 big muffins

Ingredients

1/4 cup unsalted butter (I used the Earth Balance Vegan Butter)
1 1/4 cup brown rice flour

1/4 cup tapioca flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons lactose-free milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Generously coat muffin pans with cooking spray.
  2. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Measure the flour by lightly spooning into the measuring cup and then leveling off with the back of a knife. In a large bowl, combine the flour blend, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add the egg, milk and the 1/4 cup melted butter and stir until smooth.
  4. Fill each muffin cup about half full.
  5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  6. While muffins are baking, melt the remaining 1/4 cup butter in the same saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and set aside. Combine the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. While muffins are still hot, gently remove from pans using a knife to assist. Briefly dip each muffin into the butter and then immediately roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Place on a plate to cool. Serve.

Happy Baking & Shopping!

xoxo
