I guess you could say I’m kinda into the snakeskin trend considering how much it’s been on my Instagram in the last week! It is by far the biggest trending print I’m seeing for Fall. It’s everywhere! From shoes, to tops, bags and even hair accessories.

One thing I love about snakeskin v. other animal prints is how neutral it can be. You can easily pair it with almost any color, which makes it more wearable than leopard or zebra print. Meaning, you’re going to get a lot more out of those snakeskin pieces you buy than you may out of other, trendy items!

You’ve all seen this top on my feed and in stories a few times. I can’t tell you how many DMs I’ve gotten about it – definitely a follower fave! So I went on the hunt for more, casual snakeskin pieces to integrate into my Fall wardrobe. As much as I love a super trendy piece, I love a wearable trendy piece even more.

I ended up finding SO many good pieces but narrowed it down to this super soft cardi from Nordstrom (only $42!!). As always, Nordstrom did not disappoint in being my go-to spot for finding on trend items. A simple search of “snakeskin” in clothing, and I had everything from mini skirts to basic tees! They’re truly the best retailer for combining the latest trends with the best basic silhouettes. I’ve included a few more faves in the scroll through widget at the end of the post in case you’re looking for other ways to incorporate snakeskin into your everyday wardrobe! Guaranteed, whatever you’re looking for, Nordstrom probably has it!

cardigan (XS) | bodysuit (S – sized up one) | denim (24 – size down one) | booties (TTS) | bag

The snakeskin print on this cardigan is more understated, which makes it the perfect piece to add to your closet if you’re new to the trend. I also think it makes it more versatile because the print doesn’t take over the sweater. I paired it with this bodysuit that I ended up grabbing in grey too. It’s SO soft & this rust color is perfect for Fall! Plus it’s under $15! This outfit is perfect for a weekend lunch or shopping trip. Or you could swap out the denim/top with a pair of skinny dress pants for work! Both pieces are super versatile for work or weekend wear.

For reference, I’m wearing XS in the cardigan and sized up one in the bodysuit to a S. I typically do this so bodysuits fit more like tank tops and aren’t as skintight. If you’re new to bodysuits, they are life changing!! You never have to worry about tucking anything in, your shirt looking awkwardly bunchy, and they make getting ready so easy!

The Versatile Suede Jacket Styled 2 Ways

Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses the versatile suede jacket Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses the perfect layering sweater Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses the versatile suede jacket Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses the versatile suede jacket Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses the versatile suede jacket

I’m not sure if I can put my love for this jacket into words. It’s one of those items I had wanted for quite a while but couldn’t justify paying full price for. But then, the shopping gods smiled down upon me and put it on major sale so it was time to take the plunge! Not gonna lie, sometimes I open the closet just to smell it. The suede is intoxicating. Is that weird? 🤔

Anyways, like I mentioned in my last post, a good neutral jacket should be a staple in every person’s closet. This jacket from Nordstrom is no different. Here’s my challenge to you – start thinking of your outerwear as more of an accessory v. a necessity. A jacket like this one can instantly change the look of any outfit or update an outfit you’ve had hanging in your closet for years. It also can elevate any casual outfit you have, making it instantly chicer. So, in my opinion, the versatility (and dare I say practicality) of this jacket makes it worth the money.

For this post, I decided to show you two ways you can style this particular piece. Does the grey sweater look familiar? It’s my outfit from Monday’s post, yet looks somehow dressier and more put together with this jacket overtop. See, I told you this sweater was perfect for layering 😜! The SUGARFIX necklace paired with the jacket transforms the outfit and gives it almost a western vibe that it didn’t have before.

My second outfit layers a simple black turtleneck like this one under the same jacket. Although I’m wearing the same boots and jeans, this second look is somehow drastically different than the other. It looks more street style-chic v. western casual. The second look would be perfect for a night out whereas the first is more day appropriate. (Side note – if you don’t have a simple turtleneck, it’s time to get one! It is absolutely a closet staple, and I wear mine under sweater dresses, jackets, cardigans and on its own. Not to mention, they’re very on trend for this year and typically reasonably priced.)

So, have I convinced you yet of how great of an accessory this jacket can be?

On to the gritty deets – this jacket is genuine suede and comes in 4-5 different colors depending on how it’s stocked. Having wanted this jacket for a few months, I knew I wasn’t going to buy it unless they had the right color in stock. I wanted this camel color (called “spice”) because it’s a neutral shade and can be worn in both cool and warm weather. I waited a few days until it as restocked and purchased! If you don’t see the exact size/color you desire, just wait a day or two, and it’s sure to be restocked (they literally fully restocked one color in the time I wrote this post)!

In terms of fit, it runs a little small. I sized up to a small, and it fits like a glove. It’s currently 40% off making it a little over $100. I understand this is a lot of money to most people (me included!). But, like I said earlier, think of this jacket as an investment and something that can be worn year over year with multiple different outfits. This makes it a more practical purchase rather than that $70 trendy sweater that will likely be out of style in two years.

What a week you guys! I have always had this opinion that for every few super productive days, you’re bound to have a very unproductive day. That’s life. The first few days this week I got sh*t DONE. Then I came down with a headache on Wednesday that turned into a pretty bad migraine yesterday. I took my own advice, slept and completely cut out screen time yesterday in an effort to make it go away. I woke up feeling much better today, thank God! I’m not sure why I had such a bad migraine this week. I have a feeling it was a combo of our weather swings (major pressure systems can cause migraines – weird, I know) coupled with the fact that my sleep schedule has been off. If you get migraines, I wrote a post a while back on ways to combat them. You can read it here.

Needless to say, I’m happy I’m feeling better and am looking forward to having a relaxing night and not overdoing it. If having chronic headaches has taught me anything, it’s that you have to roll with the punches and take everything day by day. Sometimes you may have a huge “to-do” list that doesn’t get done because you get sick. And that’s OK. You’re allowed to not feel good and to catch up on those super productive days.

Tomorrow, Kev and I are going to my nephew’s birthday party and then to Crashed Ice later at night. Have you heard of Crashed Ice? I hadn’t until we moved up here. It’s essentially a high-speed, downhill race course that people skate. Yes skate, not ski. It looks terrifying, and I can’t tell if I’m excited or scared to watch it live LOL.

One last thing, I’ve decided to put my “outfit details” at the end of the outfit discussion section v. beginning. This is so it’s easier to see a snapshot of what the post is about from my home page! You can also click on the product widgets to check out the outfit details!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! See you Monday!

Black Lace & Bell Sleeves

Happy Fri-YAY everyone!

First let me start off by saying THANK YOU to everyone who reached out after reading Monday’s post. Your comments, messages and emails mean SO much to me. It’s never easy to put yourself out there for the public to see. And your support makes it all worth it. I wrote that post to showcase my personal growth in 2017, not to complain or go on about hardships I faced earlier in the year. 2017 taught me the importance of critical self-reflection, which I think is a valuable life-lesson!

Now, let’s get back to fashion and beauty!

First up – Site updates! As promised, I updated some things on my site and more are yet to come next week. The “Holiday Shop & Sales” tab is no longer with us (RIP ’till November!). If you look at the top bar you’ll see there’s a “Shop” section. If you hover over that, you have options to check out my Instagram outfits as well as my product recommendations under $50 and under $100. In the bar on the right side of your page (under the little bubble with my photo) you’ll see “Currently Obsessed” and “Beauty Obsessions”. These are things I currently covet, things you guys tell me you love the most or things I wish I had in fashion and beauty. You can simply click the next arrow to browse through those selections. The shop tab as well as these sidebar items will be updated every Monday. I’ve gone through them this week, weeded out things I’m no longer feelin’ or things that are out of stock. I’ll be doing that every Monday to ensure you’re all kept up to date!

Second – I took an Instagram poll this week and so many of you requested outfit ideas for Valentine’s next month (if you’re not following me, get on it! I regularly take polls to see what you want to read about!). If you’re like Kevin and me, Valentine’s is a more low-key affair usually accompanied by a beer (or two) and a nice meal in. We’re not one for braving the crowds on holidays! However, I know so many of you are! Most of you requested posts on both dressy and casual V-day outfits as well as gift ideas so I’ll be incorporating those in over the next few weeks!

And, let’s remember, you don’t need a significant other to have a great V-day. One of the best V-day’s I had was when I was studying abroad in England. My British flatmates and I drank wine, played games and talked all night. It’s really a night I’ll never forget! So if you don’t have a significant other, don’t let that stop you! Schedule something with your best girl or guy-friends and wear a cute outfit anyway!

Forever 21 Black Lace Top (Similar Option 1; Similar Option 2) | Forever 21 Bralette | H&M Skirt | Booties (sold out – similar here) | Express Bag | Anastasia Liquid Lipstick in “Ashton”

Truth be told, this post was scheduled for next week. But, this top is selling out so quickly I felt compelled to move a few things around! But, I’m not complaining. Even choosing photos to edit for this post got me excited about it – LOL. This top is just that good!

I think it goes without saying that this top is the perfect date night/going out top. It’s sheer lace with bell sleeves so is very feminine. But, the black color gives it a certain edge that other tops like it don’t have. So, it’s truly the perfect mix of feminine and edgy. Since it is sheer, you do have to wear a bralette underneath. Or, don’t if you’re feeling particularly risky 😉! It fits true to size and hits me right above the belly button. Even though it’s from Forever 21, I was very impressed by the quality!

For this ‘fit, I went for a monochromatic look and styled it with a black faux leather skirt and black booties. I feel the all-black really rounds out the edgy look. But, it would also look good with a regular pair of jeans and over-the-knee boots. It’s definitely a top that makes you feel instantly confident when you put it on!

Side note – I also found this top in white, which would be would be perfect for Valentine’s. There’s something about white, pink and red that just epitomizes Valentine’s for me. However, don’t worry! I do have another “dressy” Valentine’s outfit lined up for you all just consider this idea an added bonus 😋

This exact top is selling out quickly so I’ve included similar ones linked above and in the click-through widget. If you’re thinking about getting it, I would obviously say DO IT! I’m literally in love with it! But, moreover, don’t hesitate because it is going super quickly!

I hope you all have a great weekend! It’s my nephew’s 7th birthday this weekend (can’t believe it 😭!) so my sister and I are surprising him at school today. We’re going to read to his 1st grade class then have lunch with him. I know he’s going to be SO excited so I can’t wait to see him!

Have a great weekend everyone!

5 Faux Fur Coats Under $50 You Need This Winter!

Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses 5 Faux Fur Coats Under $50 Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses 5 Faux Fur Coats Under $50 Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses 5 Faux Fur Coats Under $50

I swear, sometimes I feel like the Today show must know my blog post schedule. Earlier this week, I watched a segment on styling faux fur when I had this post scheduled for today. I mean, I guess great minds think alike, right? 😜

Either way you spin it, faux fur is a huge trend right now and will be sticking around for the foreseeable future! Kind of like Victorian collars, I initially wasn’t sure if I was cut out for this trend. But, being in a cold-weather area, I wanted a stylish coat to wear that was different from my down jacket or regular wool coat. And despite my love for faux fur/leopard print when I was 7 years old, I wasn’t sure how my adult self would look in it. It seemed too high fashion for me. And, faux fur has this stigma of being rather “cheap” looking. But, it’s come a long way since the 90’s and is definitely a trend to be embraced.

If you’re on the fence about the faux fur movement, don’t worry! For today’s post, we’ll discuss some pointers on styling this trend. I’ve also gathered 5 faux fur coats under $50 so you can “test drive” the trend without breaking the bank.

Although different colored/multi-colored fur is ULTRA trendy, feel free to stick to the basics to start! You’re always safe pairing your faux fur coat with neutrals or a monochromatic look. This means wearing a neutral color underneath (like my denim + black top here). Or you could wear a monochromatic outfit under your fur (all black, all white etc) for an instantly easy, chic look. A faux fur coat is meant to be part of the outfit. This means that you can and should wear the coat when you’re inside. If it gets too warm, take it off and show of your fabulous outfit underneath! However, keep in mind that a faux fur coat is, by definition, a statement making piece.

Fashion Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog | Life with Lo discusses 5 Faux Fur Coats Under $50

This faux fur coat from Forever 21 that I’m wearing is dangerously close to being sold out and for good reason. It’s $44 and is oversized without being awkwardly boxy! I’m wearing a size S, and it fits TTS (true to size). I’ve paired it with a neutral look underneath; however, it would also be perfect with an all-black look.  A warning, it does shed so exercise caution in what you wear OR just bring a lint roller with you (because that’s super convenient LOL).

And because this one is close to being sold out, this coat as well as this one are very similar alternatives and also below $50!

Coat (similar, similar)| Jeans | Boots (sold out – similar) | Wrap top (sold out – similar on SALE for under $40!)

Here are four other amazing faux fur options under $50

  1. Leopard Faux Fur – have my eye on this one. Someone think of an excuse for me to “need” it 😏
  2. Shaggy/Teddy Faux Fur – the ultimate blogger chic
  3. Long Line Faux Fur; Option One, Option Two – the most practical style!
  4. Pink Faux Fur – for those ultra-trendy ladies

For those that don’t know, SheIn is like a Forever 21 equivalent. Be sure to read reviews/look at the sizing guides to ensure you’re ordering the correct size! It’s a perfect site for buying trendy pieces on a budget.

I hope everyone had a great end to their week! Kevin gets home today after being gone for work all week so I’m pretty darn excited to see him! Tonight, we’re meeting some friends and heading to a bar downtown for the Ale Asylum launch party. Ale Asylum is one of my and Kev’s favorite Wisconsin breweries and, up until now, they haven’t sold in Minnesota. I actually just picked up almost $100 worth of their beer when I was back home so we could stock up for winter (lol). We’re obviously big fans, and we obviously were born and raised in Wisconsin. For those that don’t know, Wisconsin is one of the states with more bars than grocery stores per capita. Loving beer is pretty much a part of Wisconsin culture.  And, although we definitely don’t drink like we did in college, we do enjoy an IPA or two on the weekends. 😉

Have a great weekend everyone!

Turtleneck Body Suit (black)grey, red, white | Flare Jeansblack | Booties (black)tan

Sweater Coat (orange)grey | Purse

In honor of my 27th birthday yesterday, I decided to share 20+ random facts about me! I tried to share different info from that already on my about me page so I hope you find this at least somewhat new and entertaining! Some of these will seem pretty random, but I wanted to have fun with this and give you guys a bit of insight into who I am and how I grew up!

I’m also sharing one of my favorite outfits of late. This turtleneck bodysuit has become a recent outfit staple for me and is currently on sale for $20!! Bodysuits are so nice because they give that tucked-in look without all the bulkiness of extra fabric. It fits true to size and works for petite ladies! Also loving this “coatigan” (coat + cardigan). I wore it out when it was in the teens, and it kept me warm. It’s under $100 and extremely versatile (also comes in grey!). Definitely one of the best purchases I made this fall!

So let’s start with some basics…
  1. The first thing you should know, I’m a cat lover and believe I was probably a cat in another life. I’m not saying I don’t like dogs, I just grew up with a cat, and, to be honest, dogs are literal mouth breathers. Can’t handle. (Disclaimer: Kevin is a dog lover, and we will eventually get a dog. No complaints from me as long as it’s a big dog and fluffy).
  2. I grew up in a small city outside of Madison, WI and lived in Madison for most of my adult life. If you ever travel to Wisconsin, Madison is a must-see. It’s the state capitol and on an isthmus so surrounded by two gorgeous lakes!
  3. I attended the University of Wisconsin for my undergrad and have a degree in English Lit with European Studies.
  4. Why English? I saw Macbeth at American Player’s Theatre when I was 15 and was hooked on Shakespeare immediately (#nerdalert). He wrote 38 plays, and I’ve read over 30 of them, most multiple times. King Lear is my favorite. I took an entire class on different adaptations of King Lear while studying abroad.
  5. On to point number 5! I studied abroad for about 6 months when I was 21 in Leeds, England. I LOVED IT. So many people wonder why I studied in Leeds v. London. One, London is crazy expensive. Two, I wanted to be surrounded by British people because, back then, I believed I was born not only in the wrong century, but in the wrong country. I got my wish and lived on a floor with 4 amazing British women!
  6. I’ve traveled to 10 different countries and am counting down the days when I can take Kevin back to Europe to explore!
A bit about my family…
  1. I come from a pretty small, close-knit family with a rather large extended family. I have one sister who is 8 years older than I am, and she’s married with 3 little ones! Being an aunt is the best thing! And with my sister’s family living outside of Minneapolis, we’re able to see them much more often which we’re really enjoying!
  2. My parents have always been two of my biggest supporters and two of my biggest role models. They’re both retired but you would never know it. My dad is a chair for the American Library Association and still works closely with the federal government on various grants and committees (he’s in DC as I’m writing this!) My mom is a force to be reckoned with! She’s currently mayor of my hometown, and we can’t go anywhere in Madison without running into someone she knows (and then having a 20-minute conversation).
  3. My biggest fashion influences growing up were my maternal grandma, my aunts on my dad’s side, and my sister. My grandma was very into sewing her own clothes when she was younger. I even have two of her purses from the 40’s! My aunts have always been the embodiment of fashion, and it’s likely where I get my obsession with shoes from. And my sister and I have very similar tastes and, more than once, have unknowingly bought the same clothes!
  4. This is something I talk about quite frequently, but I have a serious love for shoes that goes back for as long as I can remember. I have a memory of getting to school in 8th grade and remembering that I forgot the pair of heels I wanted to change into (in Wisconsin winters, you wear boots to school and change!). I actually called my mom and asked her to bring the shoes to school. She didn’t LOL. Also, I may have been the only person in my high school to wear snake skin heels…
  5. In that same vein, back in high school I was religious about outfit planning. To the point where I kept an outfit journal so that I never repeated the same outfit in a 3-month period. To be honest, it amazes me that it took me 26 years to figure out I should be in the fashion industry!
  6. A bit of a back story on the blog (which you can read more about here) – I originally started my Instagram account so I could post makeup and beauty shots. But realizing that was hard to juggle with a full-time office job, I started doing more natural beauty/outfit of the day posts. You can’t really walk into an office with a fully glammed out face, falsies on and everything! And my Instagram really organically evolved into the blog. I’m still very much a newbie and learning but I’m enjoying every second of it!
  7. I’m a pretty short lady – I’m 5’2” but am built like my dad’s side so have a shorter torso and longer legs (relatively speaking). For the most part, I like this. I can usually get away with buying regular length pants but crop tops are another story!
A bit of random stuff about me…
  1. I’m a sucker for a good novel, and I find the best way to relax is to curl up and read a really good book (English major, remember?). And, although I love Shakespeare, I’ve expanded my horizons into different genres like post-apocalyptic literature and suspense/mysteries. However, my favorite novels of all time are still Jane Eyre and Gone with the Wind. They are so timeless!
  2. I typically listen to pop music or a mix of indie/pop/folk. My favorite artist is for sure Katy Perry. KatyCat since ’08 and haven’t looked back since! I’m going to see her in December for the 2nd time and am beyond excited. I also love Taylor Swift and am completely over that whole feud! I actually remember sitting in a high school friend’s car in 2007 when TSwift’s “Our Song” came on the radio and her saying, “Yeah, this is a new singer, Taylor Swift, she’s pretty good” LOL – we had no idea how big she would become!
  3. My favorite types of food are Mexican and Chinese. Although if I had to just choose one food that I love, it would probably be cheese. I KNOW that is horribly stereotypical of me coming from the cheese state and all, but it’s just so good! Knowing that dairy makes me break out horribly literally breaks my heart.
  4. When I was younger, I was very into performing. I was an Irish Dancer for almost 10 years, was in a children’s play group and was even the lead in my high school’s musical. I still love to sing but now my audience is usually just Kevin and the boys (AKA my cats).
  5. Which leads into my next topic, my boys! I get a ton of questions about my cats’ names since they have human names. We got George in fall of 2013 when I was still overly obsessed with British history so I named him after King George I. Technically, George was “my cat”. Kevin then got Frank and named him after “Frank the Tank” from Old School. Not even joking. I have a vivid memory of Kevin chanting “FRANK THE TANK” as we drove back from the humane society lol!
  6. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and really have no control over my eating (I’ve been known to eat peanut butter by the spoonful). So, Kevin and I literally keep no snack food or sweets in the apartment besides pretzels LOL. I’ve founded my daily Vega One shakes are just sweet enough to trick me into thinking I’m having chocolate with breakfast.
  7. I have a love/hate relationship with working out because I hate, HATE cardio. I can never get past the feeling like I’m gonna vomit/pass out to get that mythical “runner’s high” people talk about. But, I know how important it is for overall health, and I always feel great after working out. Lately, I’ve been loving PIYO, which is a Beach Body workout (no I’m not a coach). It’s the perfect mix of yoga, pilates and cardio for someone who hates cardio!
  8. When I was 14, I got my first ipod that I still have. You know, the huge, white one with the black and white screen. I’m holding on to it as I’m convinced I’ll be able to sell it for millions someday.
  9. I’ve been a certified Starbucks addict since I was 13 (they hooked me young!). One of the first drinks I tried was a caramel macchiato but hated it because it was too bitter for me LOL. In middle school, white chocolate mochas were my jam. My friends and I would get Starbucks, then walk to Noodles and have buttered noodles and parmesan.

If you couldn’t guess from this post (or all of my others), I was blessed with the “gift of gab” as my mom calls it and often am long-winded. I also like to write a lot (the English major in me!). So, although this was a bit longer than intended, per-usual, I hope you found it enlightening and that you learned a thing or two about me!

Have a great weekend everyone!
