Punta Cana Outfit Round Up + Vacay Recap

Punta Cana Outfit Roundup + Vacay Recap! Style Blogger Lauren Meyer shares an Punta Cana Outfit Roundup + Vacay Recap!

Hello & Happy Friday friends!

Sharing a HUGE roundup from Punta Cana today! Can we just go back?! At least the temps in Minnie are nearing 50, and I’m flying out to ATX in the morning so, can’t complain 😉

I’ve had several common DMs over the last two weeks. Like I mentioned in Wednesday’s post, our WiFi at the resort was not meant for a busy blogger bee like me and, combined with Instagram/Facebook’s blackout on Wednesday, I am just now making a dent in the DMs about Punta Cana! Lots of questions about our resort, our excursion and what I did to prep! Hoping to answer lots of those today!

We stayed at the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar and booked through Apple Vacations. Ambar is a small resort within a huge complex of maybe 5-6 other Bahia Principe resorts. Ambar is the most updated (renovations finished Nov 2018) and is adults only! We explored the other resorts pretty extensively, and I’m happy we stayed in Ambar. Overall better vibes, food, and drinks! The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. We loved all of the food especially the steakhouse – M.E.A.T. I heard the Italian is good too! We also loved the all inclusive coffee shop on site. They did offer nightly shows at the main resort (Bavaro), but we typically hung out at the Sports Bar in Ambar and chatted with a few other couples we met!

If you’ve stayed at an all-inclusive or done a beach vacay before, you know they’re pretty low key. We basically got coffee every morning, were on the beach by mid-morning and then ate at the beach-side lunch buffet. So good! I think we had guacamole with every meal lol! Then spent the later afternoons at the pool bar before heading back to the room to shower and head to dinner. One thing I will say is that the a la carte restaurants at the resort fill up FAST. I suggest booking ahead – we only got two reservations the entire week!

We also did an excursion day – Janillo VIP – with Scape Park tours! We booked this through our Apple Vacations representative at the resort. Side note – I can’t speak for everyone, but we have had great experiences booking through Apple. They arrange airport transports to the resorts and have representatives on site to help you while you’re there with things like excursions and airport pick ups.

In terms of the excursion with Scape Park, we snorkled, drank on a sandbar, ate lunch on Janillo beach and then jumped in el Hoyo Azul – a giant cenote! In case you missed it, I did save the video of me jumping into the 50 ft deep hole of ice cold water to my Punta Cana highlights on Instagram. It was so scary, but so fun! Definitely a bucket list moment!

In terms of prep for the trip, I started it off with getting a wax at Waxing the City. I love that place and have been several times! If you haven’t gotten a wax before a beach vacation, you have not lived! I started a few years back, and it is life changing. Last year I added on a leg wax in addition to my standard bikini in prep for our trip to Sanibel. I didn’t have to shave my legs for 3 weeks let alone the time we were actually in warm weather! Life Changing. This time I added on underarms in addition to legs and bikini. My skin stayed smooth the entire vacation! Waxing the City locations are independently owned but are nationwide. Highly recommend checking them out if you have a vacay coming up!

I wrapped up my prep by getting a spray tan at The Glow Lounge, which is a local chain in the Cities. The gals there are SO nice! I have friends who get their spray tans done there regularly so I knew they did a good job. But, I am so impressed at how mine turned out! It’s the perfect golden brown color and looks very natural, even on my hands (you’ll know that’s not always the case if you watch my Instagram stories, haha!).

I used to go to a tanning bed to get a “base tan” before going to a tropical location and, I’ll be honest, I don’t think a base tan does ANYTHING. I still burned! Now I just get my spray tan, bring along these tanning drops to mix in with lotion once the tan starts wearing away (around day 7-8 if going in water) and apply SPF 50 like it’s my job. Skin cancer and early aging are not cute ladies!

Now on to the outfits! As always, I’m rounding up the links + sizes to every outfit from Punta Cana shared on Instagram! Most of the items below are from American Eagle, Amazon, Shopbop and, of course, Loft! Also sharing a few sales at the end for the holiday weekend and February/Punta Cana top sellers (since we didn’t get to that yet!).

FEBRUARY TOP SELLERS

1. This sweater from Amazon was the top seller for February! I love this one! It comes in 2 other colors and works for sizes XS-XL and petite – tall gals!

2. These AE jeans were the top 2 seller for February. I basically live in these jeans. They are SO comfy and flattering! I did get the regular length because they’re cropped & they fit TTS. They’re also on sale right now!

3. These sneakers from DSW were the 3rd bestseller. Another item I essentially live in. They feel like you’re walking on clouds and are under $50, need I say more? I also picked up this leopard pair (wore them on both travel days) from the same brand last week. Size down .5 in both!

PUNTA CANA BEST SELLERS

  1. This coverup from Amazon was the top seller from Punta Cana! I mean, it’s no surprised, I basically wore it to death while I was there. LOL. It’s such a good find and easily transitions from the beach to lunch like I did with this look.
  2. Another Amazon find – this swimsuit was the second top seller. This suit looks good on so many body types! The reviews show several women who are more busty looking fabulous in it and a few of you who are different sizes sent me photos in it looking amazing too! And, it’s under $30! I’m wearing the S.
  3. These shoes from Target came in third. Definitely my most worn pair down in PC. I wore them to the beach and pool. Even got them wet with no damage! And, they’re a great designer dupe!

All outfits are below with links and sizing details under the photos! Everything fits TTS unless noted otherwise. Lots of items on sale!!

What I Pack in My Carry On

Happy Wednesday!

It has been a while you guys! Probably the longest break I’ve taken from the blog in 6 months (yes, I’m aware it was only 2 weeks lol). And, it wasn’t even intentional.

As I’m sure you remember, since I hammered it into your brains numerous times, we spent last week in the Dominican Republic at an all inclusive resort! The WiFi at the resort moved at the pace of molasses and even posting an Instagram photo took about 2 hours so a blog post would’ve taken the whole trip, lol!

I plan to do an outfit roundup/resort review on Friday so stay tuned for that! For this post, I’m focusing on a question I got a lot before and during my trip – what I packed and how I stayed organized.

In prep for our trip and the many others I have coming up, I picked up a new set of luggage and really challenged myself to stay organized. I’m usually that person whose suitcase ends up all over the hotel room. Which causes me to lose my mind about half way through a trip. But not this time!

Like I mentioned, I recently picked up a set of Calpak luggage. I was in the market to buy a hard sided suitcase to better protect fragile bags I bring with me (like this one), my makeup and for better theft protection. Two of my close girlfriends love their Calpak luggage, and I couldn’t resist this pretty set. And, I actually found last year’s version on sale here! There’s barely a scratch on them, and they held SO much. They’re also incredibly light for how heavy-duty they are. This was maybe the first trip I didn’t come close to hitting the 50lb threshold. Kevin was impressed lol!

I also picked up these packing cubes and shoe bags to help me organize my luggage better. I have to say, packing took me about 1/2 the time because everything fit so easily into my luggage. If I needed to rearrange anything, I could easily see what was in a pack and move it without have to take clothes out and sort through layers upon layers of clothes, socks, hats and toiletries.

When we got to the resort, I simply hung all of my clothes that I needed to. Then unzipped the remaining cubes and placed them on the closet shelves. This helped my clothes stay organized and made repacking SO much easier!

The only complaint I have is that the shoe bags don’t have a mesh lining. For some reason, I thought they did although the photos clearly show no mesh so you do have to unzip them slightly to see what’s inside.

Because a style blogger’s checked bag is equivalent to Mary Poppin’s purse (lol), I thought it would be easiest to share what I packed in my carry on and how I organized it. I did get requests to share what was in my checked bag so I’m sharing a bit of that below too!

    • Extra Clothes: I saved one of the medium sized packing cubes to pack extra clothes for Kev & I. We each packed an extra set of shorts, shirts, undies & swimsuits in case our luggage got lost.

    • Valuables: I made sure to leave room for my more valuable items in my carry on. To this day, I will never forget that my sister had items stolen out of her checked bag at O’Hare back in like 2003. I keep my valuables glued to me! For this trip, I packed my Tory Burch Millers, my new wedge heels, my jewelry and my Chloe bag.

    • Breakables: Anything that could potentially be breakable, I’ll pack in my carry on. For this trip, I packed the dupe I mentioned above. I first stuffed it with a cami and my pajamas to protect it then packed it. Side note – I also do this with hats in my checked bag. I roll pajamas or tops up and stuff the inside so the hat doesn’t get crushed.

      • Makeup: I bring as much of my makeup as I possibly can in my carry on. Make up is hella expensive and in the off chance my luggage is lost (or worse stolen!), I don’t want to risk that getting lost. I often keep things like my foundation, primer, lipstick and mascara in my 3oz bag. All dry products + brushes I keep in this case. I recently picked this case up and love it! It’s perfect for travel!

    • Hair Tools: With the same thought as my makeup, hair tools are also crazy expensive! So I typically pack the ones I bring in my carry on. This time I brought along my curling wand (base found here) and straightener!

    • Necessary Toiletries: I like to bring makeup wipes and a travel size version of my skincare in case our luggage does get lost. PS you can use code LOMEYER for 20% off any of my skincare! I also bring along a toothbrush, Tums, contacts, glasses, lotion, hand sanitizer, and migraine meds – just the necessities I need to survive on the daily, you know!

      • A good book, my journal & devotional: I pack these with the same school of thought as my other valuables. These are emotionally valuable to me, and I often find myself journaling and reading on long flights! Right now, I’m currently reading this book and discovered so many of you are too!

    • Earbuds: Always listening to music on flights or watching something, so earbuds are key! This pair has worked for years and are under $10 + Prime!

In terms of my checked bag, I tried to pack everything possible in the cubes or in shoe bags. I organized the bags by tops, bottoms, swimsuits/coverups, undies, and an extra bag for dirty clothes on the way back! The key to using cubes is to roll everything. This will maximize space and allow you to see all the contents! Just remember to bring a steamer with you. That’s something we forgot and a few items were definitely wrinkly!

In addition, I packed any additional bags, inexpensive footwear and non-essential toiletries in my checked bag.

I think that pretty much covers it! What are some necessities you bring in your carry on?

xoxo

50+ Pieces to Create the Best Spring Break Outfits

50+ Pieces to Create the Best Spring Break Outfits & Resort Wear ;

SO excited to be sharing the items I picked up for our trip to Punta Cana with you all today! I’ve gotten quite a few messages requesting a round up of all the items I’m bringing. Sounds like a ton of you are planning trips of your own! Most items below are under $50-75, and the few that are over are definitely staple pieces, like my Miller sandals.

Disclaimer because there are over 50 items below (lol). I already owned some of these items, and I purchased more than I plan to take for a few reasons. One, I’m betting that some won’t fit when I do my Spring Break try on tomorrow and will have to be returned. Two, I head to Austin, TX a week after I get back so plan to bring some of what’s below on that trip too! Given the trips are so close, I had to shop for both at the same time.

I did also pick up a new set of luggage from Calpak that’s currently on sale! I plan to do a full blog post on how I pack my carry on, which will include more info. But since the brand is part of the Shopbop sale, I’m giving you guys a quick heads up now!

Spring Break Ready with Waxing The City

Beauty Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog shares how to get Spring Break Ready with Waxing The City and How to Bikini Wax Beauty Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog shares how to get Spring Break Ready with Waxing The City and How to Bikini Wax Beauty Blogger Lauren Meyer of the Lo Meyer Blog shares how to get Spring Break Ready with Waxing The City and How to Bikini Wax

Today’s the day, folks! If you’re reading this, we’re on the plane heading to sunny Sanibel, FL ☀ To say I’m extremely excited would be an understatement. I’ve been shopping for weeks in preparation (duh) and literally haven’t been able to sleep lol!

Although I’ve been shopping the last month to prep for the trip, this week really marked the body-prep period for me. Sure, I’ve been working out more consistently, which we’ve already talked about in this post. But, the week before a beach vacay, I always schedule a wax and a spray tan.

Since we moved after our last vacay, I was determined to find a good studio up here for my wax. A good waxing studio should be clean, welcoming and knowledgeable. I came across Waxing the City, which has numerous locations across the country. Their reviews are top-notch so I knew it was a good place to go. I booked my bikini and full leg wax for 2 days before our vacay to ensure I had enough time to get a spray tan before we left. When discussing my appointment with friends and family, it became apparent that not a lot of people know the benefits of waxing and have questions. So let’s clear that up! I’m going to provide an in depth review of Waxing the City and their services along with answering some FAQs, so you can feel comfortable booking them for your next vacation!

Why Wax?

I didn’t always wax before beach vacations. The first time I did was in 2015 and have waxed every year since then. And, although I’ve done a bikini wax before, this was my first year doing legs too. Here’s why I love to wax before a vacation – it’s one last thing to deal with while you’re on vacation because the hair doesn’t grow back for weeks. And, when it does grow back, it’s very fine and thin. No more worrying about razor bumps or unseemly hairs showing through, you’ve already taken care of it!

After our vacay last summer, I decided to never take another beach vacation without waxing my legs too. Besides avoiding shaving, there’s another reasons why I decided this. I am naturally Edward Cullen-pale. Like the color of the screen you’re reading this on. So getting a spray tan before showing my pale self on the beach is necessary just so people know I’m a human and not an alien from a planet called “the North”. But, there’s nothing more frustrating than paying for a tan and literally shaving it off throughout the vacation. Because that’s what shaving does – it exfoliates your skin and takes the first layer that has the tan with it. The result is your tan wearing off unevenly, which I have experienced more than once. So, that is another reason why I decided to wax before this vacation to avoid the streaky tan effect.

Why Waxing the City?

As mentioned, given you’re likely waxing some sensitive areas of your body, you want your waxing studio to feel comfortable and welcoming. When I walked into Waxing the City’s St Louis Park location, I was instantly greeted by a friendly, smiling receptionist. She walked me through the necessary forms to fill out and even complimented me! Service was quick and the Cerologist (what they call their estheticians), Ashley, was out to greet me and walk me back to the room in no time.

As you can see from the photos, the room itself is very clean and sterile. Everything the client touches is covered so that you have no fear of someone else’s body touching something you touch. The room even provides an outlet to charge your phone while you get waxed! Obviously, I loved that (lol!). Something that I really appreciated about Waxing the City was that they gave you disposable underwear to wear. You put them on and then place the towel over so that you’re pretty much completely covered except for the small space that’s getting waxed. This made me feel very comfortable and never exposed as I have sometimes felt at other studios.

While the appointment was going on, Ashley talked to me about my exfoliating routines and tips about avoiding ingrown hairs since I indicated that was sometimes an issue for me on the sign-up forms. This showed me that she had taken the time to thoroughly review my forms and cared about the service she provided! She kept up conversation outside of waxing education and put me at ease. There was no “awkwardness” about it at all!

After the appointment, Ashley walked me through after care and suggested products that would help with my sensitive skin.

I will 100% be back at this studio for my next vacation. I’m also tempted to go there for regular waxing after hearing that Ashley has been waxing her underarms for 12 months and now barely has any hair that grows back after 12 weeks. That’s amazing! And I’m totally jealous lol!

Common FAQ’s

Does it hurt?

Yes, but there are ways to alleviate this. Take an ibuprofen 30-40 minutes ahead of your appointment. This will help with pain as well as any inflammation. Also, if you’re waxing your bikini area, try to avoid doing it during your period because that area is extra sensitive. If you’re lucky like me and have ALL vacations perfectly align with your period (sorry for the TMI), try to avoid waxing in the first 1-3 days when it’s the heaviest. Lastly, the pain is always the worst the first few strips then your body gets used to it, and it’s not as noticeable.

Can you tan after?

You should not tan before OR after waxing for 24-48 hours depending on how your skin reacts. You should wait at least 24 hours before sun-tanning or sunless tanning. Waxing literally pulls the hair out and leaves the pores wide open. This leaves your skin vulnerable for the first 24 hours since it is so exposed. However, waxing is an excellent way to prep for a sunless tan since it is a great way to exfoliate! Just be sure to wait a day before tanning.

How long does your hair have to be?

Ashley recommends as long as a grain of rice, which is typically 2-4 weeks of growth. I did a full 4 weeks of growth (my husband is a lucky man!) this time. The first time I did a bikini wax I did about 2.5 weeks and was left with some stubble. Longer hair actually means a smoother wax.

What if I get bumps/in-grown hairs?

There are a few things I’ve found and was recommended to combat this. You will likely get some bumps the first 24 hours post-wax, which is another reason to wax 2-3 days before your vacation. You can use a face toner on those areas like this one or witch hazel like this one. I personally use PFB, which was recommended to me by Ashley but have also used this in the past. Tend Skin is another way to diminish bumps or razor burn but can be harsh on the skin.

What’s the price?

This depends on your salon or studio but in my experience a bikini/brazilian can range from $35-75 depending on what you have done. Legs can be $50+. Studios like Waxing the City have packages where you can do both bikini and full legs for just over $100 making it more economical!

Waxing the City actually has a great FAQ page, so if you have questions I haven’t answered, head here.

So, have I convinced you of how necessary it is to head to Waxing the City before your next big vacation? I think I’ve convinced myself to go back for my underarms!

Next week I will only be doing one new blog post likely on Wednesday or Friday all on beauty products to bring on a sunny vacay (think make-up setting sunscreens, beachy lip colors etc). I’m going to try to be “on vacation” as much as I can so I can enjoy this time with my family! Kev & I are heading to Sanibel with my parents + my sister and her fam to celebrate my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary this year (pretty cool, huh?!)! I will be posting daily or twice daily on the ‘gram so be sure to follow me there to stay updated! And, as always, my stories will capture our daily activities!

Happy Friday everyone!

XOXO
