My Skincare Routine

Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares her skincare routine using Korean Beauty Line Saranghae

Hello & Happy Friday Everyone!

If you follow my Instagram stories, you know this post has been a LONG time coming! I’m so excited to be sharing my skincare routine today as that’s something I get quite a few questions on! I’m even including before and after photos of what my skin looked like before I started the routine I do now!

And, if you follow me on the ‘gram and watch my stories, you know that adult acne is something I struggle with. I didn’t always struggle with acne. In fact, I rarely had blemishes as a teen. Which made my adult acne that much more unbearable. I didn’t know how to handle it, what caused it, and it took me years (and hundreds spent on various products) to find a solution. All the while, most of my friends had perfectly clear skin and had grown out of the breakout phase I was just starting. Fun times!

Around this time last year, I partnered with a Korean skincare brand called Saranghae. Like most partnerships, I viewed this as a great opportunity to test out new products for you all but didn’t have much hope that they’d truly work for my skin. I was stuck in the habit of using the same products from Sephora day in day out because I knew they at least made my acne tolerable. I used Saranghae for three weeks and have never gone back to my old products. For real! I repeat, a relatively new skincare brand kicked my “classics” like Clinique and Origin out the door.

Since that time, I’ve tried various other skincare products because that’s my job – to test new products and styles for you! But, I’ll be honest, I always go back to Saranghae. I’m not totally certain, but I’m pretty sure their products are as close to magic as I can get. I tested this theory back in March. Trying to save money and leaving things to the last minute (surprise, surprise!), I traveled to Sanibel Island with Kevin and my family with a hodge-podge of skincare items. Some had been gifted, others were leftover from what I had used BS (before Saranghae). I came back and things were NOT looking pretty! So, the second I stepped off the plane, I reordered Saranghae’s 5-step plan.

Yes, you read that right. I purchased this product with my OWN money. And, I still do. So, no, this is not a sponsored post!

Here’s a full run down of the 5-step routine I follow everyday with their products. The only modification is that I swap out their serum (Step 2) with Coola’s tanning face serum in the morning to help me get my glow on. Other than that, I follow this to a T.

    1. OIL & FOAM CLEANSER: This cleanser actually has bits of gold in it to enhance your glow. And, let me tell you, it works! It’s incredibly gentle yet insanely effective. It even removes my Estee Lauder Stay-in-Place Foundation that’s technically water proof. You actually use this on dry skin, rinse with warm water and then pat dry!
    2. ESSENCE + SERUM: Essence is a product unique to Korean skin care. Saranghae’s version takes Essence, a traditional Korean anti-aging product, with a typical North American anti-aging serum to form a very effective combination. It’s a gel like product that you put all over your face and neck directly after drying. This is my favorite product out of their entire line because it is so soothing on skin, especially in dry winter months!
    3. MOISTURIZER: After applying the Essence + Serum, I gently rub this into my face and neck. This moisturizer helps repair damaged skin reducing things like redness, age spots and wrinkles. It’s also a really effective moisturizer that doesn’t clog pores, which is hard to come by!
    4. EYE CREAM: Lastly, I use their eye cream on my under-eye, above my brows to reduce sagging, and on my lids too. The thing I really like about this eye cream is its ability to sink into your skin and allow your under-eye concealer to go on smoothly. So often, I cannot use eye creams under makeup because they make my concealer crease or cake horribly. This actually makes my concealer go on smoother!
    5. FACE MASK: Saranghae always sends out a big pack of sheet masks with every bundle too! We all know I love my me-time! So I usually use this mask once a week (the night before I wash my hair, lol).

Great Skin

In terms of price, I’m not gonna lie, it is pricy at first. The complete 5-step routine is $189 with a membership. Membership only means that they will auto-ship you a new bundle when you want it. It defaults to shipping every 45-days, but I find that one box lasts me about 60-80 days. So, I have them ship it every 2 months or so. With every purchase, the price drops. You can read more about their pricing here.

But, before you exit this post convinced that this is too pricey let me ask you – have you ever totaled the skincare products in your cabinet? I’m willing to bet, they come to at least that amount. Or, if they don’t, are they really working for your skin? Are they anti-aging, skin clearing and made from quality ingredients? When I totaled my old skincare products before Saranghae, I found that my eye cream alone was $55, my face wash was $25, my moisturizer $35, and my toner was $15. Plus, I had to purchase replacement heads for my Clarisonic every 4 weeks or so (~$20/piece). So, skincare adds up REAL quick! And I used to pay this for products that only sort of worked and didn’t have as many quality ingredients.

Part of the reason why Saranghae is pricey is because the quality of their ingredients cannot be beat. Their ingredients are botanically based, 100% vegan, paraben, sulfate and pthalate free as well as cruelty free!

Need more convincing? Look at these (unedited) photos I sent them a few months back as part of an acne scarring review. My face was relatively free of breakouts from their products BUT what’s more, their products make my acne scarring fade to basically nothing. Those weird dark spots are literally a thing of the past. These photos are taken at the start of their program again in March, 3 weeks after using it and then 8 weeks after using it.

Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares her skincare routine using Korean Beauty Line Saranghae

Doesn’t the last photo look like I’m wearing foundation?! SHOOK PEOPLE! I was so surprised by these photos! You can clearly see a huge improvement in the darkness around my eyes, my acne/scarring as well as the overall evenness of my skin tone.

One last thing, if you’re like me and married to a frugal person or born a frugal person, you may be thinking you can squeeze by by just using *some* of their products. I’m gonna let you know right now that I’ve tried that, and you definitely need the whole routine to make it work. Case in point, two weeks ago, I ran out of my face wash. As most of you know, we just got done moving so I thought I could make do with some random face wash while I waited to get settled and have it shipped to our new address. In the last two weeks, I have had more blemishes than I had all Summer. Needless to say I am tracking my new package like there is no tomorrow because your girl NEEDS this!

So, in a nutshell, my skincare routine involves Saranghae with a touch of Coola for that glow. And, I hope the amount that I’ve gushed in this post tells you how much I love this product (lol).

If you’re ready to try it, you can purchase it from this link! And, if you’ve tried Saranghae, what was your favorite product?

Have a great weekend everyone!

xoxo

Sephora Fall VIB Sale Picks

Sephora Fall VIB Sale, Sephora, Sephora Beauty, Sephora Haircare, Sephora Skincare, Urban Decay, Becca, Origins, Amika, Living Proof, Eyeshadow, Dry Shampoo, Volumizer, Cleanser, Highlight, Makeup brushes, sale products, Sephora Sale

**UPDATED**

Sale Dates: 11/10-11/15

ROUGE: 20% off 20FORROUGE

VIB: 20% off 20FORVIB

Beauty Insiders: 15% off INSIDER15

I know everyone always says October is their favorite month (leaves changing, pumpkin everything etc), but mine has always been November. November always signals the start of the holidays for me, which begins with my birthday mid-month, Thanksgiving shortly after followed by LOTS of shopping then Christmas and New Years! It really is the best time of year.

November also marks the Sephora Fall VIB Sale for Beauty Insiders. The Sephora Beauty Insider program is a rewards program that’s free to join and allows you to gain a point for every dollar spent at Sephora. It also gains you access to weekly deals, and their twice yearly sales site wide. There are different tiers to the program – Beauty Insider, VIB and VIB Rouge. Your tier depends on the amount spent in a calendar year. If you guessed that I’m a VIB Rouge you guessed right. Please don’t look up how much that means I spend there in a year and PLEASE do not tell Kevin! LOL. To be fair, I buy everything from Sephora. From makeup, to skincare, to haircare almost my entire bathroom is from Sephora.

During their twice yearly sales, I stock up BIG time. I mean, it would be silly not to with how good the sales are (talking 10-20% sitewide depending on your tier). The exact dates for the November sale are still up in the air, but it typically starts the first or second weekend with the VIB Rouge, then moves down the tiers until the end of the month. If you’re wondering what to buy, I’ve sorted out my top pics for different categories below! My post from Tuesday on holiday lipsticks also has a ton of products that will be on sale as well! Happy shopping (and saving!)

I. GIFT SETS:

‘Tis the season right?! One of the best things about Sephora is that year-round they have a “gift” section separated into different price categories. These are some of my top picks (most below $60). A lot of these would be great as a whole gift or even separated out into stocking stuffers/smaller gifts for different people. Endless Options! My top 3 picks in this section are below!

  1. Fresh Sugar Lip Beauty Box: You get 6 of these tinted lip balms at $45, which is a crazy good deal considering they normally retail for $24 individually (and this is without an extra % off!). This is a great present to get and then divvy up into stocking stuffers or individual gifts!
  2. Beauty Blender Gold Mine: This is very similar to a gift set I got for my sister last year. Again, another instance of saving crazy money considering one beauty blender alone retails for $20 and this set of 2 + a cleanser and blotting papers comes in at $40. It’s the perfect gift to introduce someone to beauty blenders. Wondering what these are? Read more about how you use them in my post here.
  3. Too Faced Best Year Ever Collection: This collection of 3 mini eyeshadow palettes is great to separate out into individual gifts at a very affordable price. It also comes with a variety of shades so is likely to have something everyone likes.

II. MAKE-UP:

These are my must-have sale picks for makeup at Sephora. A lot of these are staples in my beauty regime, and some are palettes I’ve been dying to try! Again, my top 3 picks are below!

  1. Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette: I received this palette as a gift from a friend a few months ago and use it almost every time I wear makeup. I barely touch my other palettes because I’m so obsessed with this one. It has all warm-toned colors with enough for both summer and winter looks, which makes it great to use all year-round. It’s also highly pigmented so a little goes a long way. With the sale, this palette will be below $50, which is a seriously good deal!
  2. Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick: This is a recent purchase for me that I’ve been using the last few weeks. In my foundation post, I talked about using the regular Double Wear Stay In Place foundation, which is also an amazing product. However, sometimes with the Stay In Place foundation I would find my skin looking really dry when in fact I have normal – oily skin most of the time. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I need something lighter and not so full coverage. So enters the Nude Cushion Stick. The Stick has the same shades as the Stay In Place original with the same staying power (in my opinion) just without the heaviness. I’m obsessed with the glow this foundation gives me and how buildable it is! 😍
  3. Ready to Roll Brush Set: This set is perfect for the beginner make-up enthusiast or for someone looking to re-vamp their brush collection. For 10 brushes, this is already a good deal, but with the sale it’ll be even better!
III. SKINCARE:

Sephora carries some of the best skincare products out there. In my opinion, their skincare products already come at pretty affordable prices, but I always like to stock up during the sale. Make sure to check out my 3 essentials and snag yours at the lower price!

  1. Origins Checks and Balances Face Wash: This is hands down one of my favorite skin products of all time. A Sephora sales rep introduced me to it last year, and I use it almost daily. It’s perfect for normal or combination skin as it will literally balance out your oily/dry areas (hence the name Checks and Balances). It has a foamy texture when wet and works well with a brush like a Clarisonic if you have one.
  2. Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment: This acne treatment works wonders on blemishes. It almost always eliminates blemishes within a day or two. However, it is very drying, so make sure to use a good moisturizer before applying it and use it once a day! Also, mine typically lasts 6 months with sometimes daily use so you get a lot for what you pay for!
  3. Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Cream: A gift from the anti-aging gods! I bought this eye cream last Spring during the VIB sale and have used about half of it. A little goes a long way and it’s one of the most effective products out there. Definitely worth the money!
IV. HAIRCARE:

Haircare products are some of my most purchased items from Sephora, which might surprise you. But, they have SO many quality brands at good prices. I’ll be highlighting my favorite go-to products that I’m planning to stock up on during the sale. You’ll notice most are from 3 brands – Alterna (personal fave!), Living Proof, and Amika. And, I’ve actually included 4 must-have products below because I’m really that much of a hair-lover 😜

  1. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo: Hands-down the BEST dry shampoo out there. And trust me, for a girl who washes her hair only twice a week, I’ve tried the gamut of products. This dry shampoo is a step above the rest because it actually cleans your hair when you spray it on your roots. What?! I know! After a sweaty workout, this product eliminates oil and grease to allow you to style your hair any way you want. I’ve actually been running super low on this dry shampoo for a few weeks and have been using my travel size to get me through to the sale LOL #hardlife. If there’s one thing you pick up from this post, let this be it!
  2. Amika Bombshell Blow Out Spray: This spray is perfect for us fine-haired ladies. It’s a spray so it won’t weigh your hair down like a mousse would. Also, it works when you both blow dry and air dry your hair. I use mine every time I wash my hair!
  3. Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Shampoo + Conditioner: Alterna products are a step above the rest. I discovered this brand largely on accident after using my Beauty Insider points to purchase a few samples of their shampoo. After I used the samples, I was hooked, and this is now my go-to shampoo/conditioner. I even got my sister hooked. We’re also convinced this makes your hair thicker over time. This stuff is MAGIC you guys! Cannot rave about it enough 💕
  4. Alterna Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 Complete Correction: This is another product I use every time I wash my hair. You only need a little so you can make even a sample size last months. Just as the name says, it protects your hair in 10 different ways from anti-breakage, heat protection, UV protection, smoothing, etc. yet is still light enough for fine hair. This was a game-changer in my hair routine, and I think is another reason why my hair feels thicker and healthier than it has before!

Whew! Didn’t realize this post would be so long! But there are just SO many good products I didn’t want to miss one! Make sure to stay tuned for the Sephora Fall VIB Sale, and I’ll be sure to update this post once they release the official dates. 🤗

Kev and I had a great time at the Minnesota Wild Hockey game on Tuesday! Unfortunately, they lost, but it was still a really fun experience. Tonight, we’re going over to my sisters to have dinner since my Dad is in town for a workshop. My Dad is a donut aficionado so tomorrow I’m taking him to Bogart’s for a morning treat before he leaves for home. I’m excited to see his face once he sees all their flavors!

5 Lipsticks for the Holidays + DIY Lip Scrub Recipe!

Lipsticks for Holidays, Lipstick for Holidays, DIY Lip Scrub, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Lip Primer, Fall Lip Colors, Tarte Colada, Kylie Cosmetics Candy K, Anastasia Ashton, Anastasia Allison, Bite Beauty Gazpacho Lipsticks for Holidays, Lipstick for Holidays, DIY Lip Scrub, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Lip Primer, Fall Lip Colors, Tarte Colada, Kylie Cosmetics Candy K, Anastasia Ashton, Anastasia Allison, Bite Beauty GazpachoOne of my favorite things about Fall is switching to darker shades of lipstick. I actually have two separate lipstick drawers in my makeup organizer. One with light shades and another with dark – lol! I’m fully prepared for any season. Today, I want to talk about my top 5 lipsticks for the holidays that can easily work all winter long! I’ve also included the “recipe” I use for my DIY lip scrub. It goes without saying that if your lips aren’t properly exfoliated, long-wearing lipstick can end up making your makeup look worse and make the wrong sort of statement (ew chapped and flaky lips!).

So let’s get started! Here are my top 5 lipsticks for the holidays!

  1. Kylie Cosmetics – “Candy K”:
    • Candy K is a warm pinky nude color that is a staple in Kylie’s collection of Lip Kits. It’s perfect for a casual outfit and lasts all day without any transfer. This is easily one of my most used lip colors once the weather turns cooler!
  2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick– “Allison”
    • Allison is a dark pinky brown shade that came out as a holiday release last year. This shade is perfect for holiday outfits or any outfit you want to have a pink, yet darker lip color for.
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick – “Ashton”
    • Ashton is a yellow brown color that is another one of my cold-weather go-to’s. It just looks like autumn when you put it on. This shade is perfect for both casual wear and for a night out!
  4. Tarte Color Splash Lipstick – “Colada”
    • Colada is a peachy brown nude color that has recently become a favorite of mine. As you can see in the photo, I got this as a sample from Sephora and already know I’ll be purchasing the full size. What I love is that the shade is a perfect, everyday nude, and it’s SUPER moisturizing so suitable for all-day wear.
  5. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick – “Gazpacho”
    • Gazpacho is a darker red color that is super pigmented and perfect for holiday wear. When swatched, you can see that it’s a pretty true red color. It’s also super long wearing. Even after removing the swatches with makeup remover, I was still left with a Gazpacho stain on my arm – lol! It was a favorite of mine last holiday season, and I know will be a favorite again this year!

My process for applying lipstick to ensure it lasts, doesn’t get flakey, feather or bleed is pretty simple:

  1. I exfoliate using my homemade lip scrub in the shower by gently rubbing it on my lips with a washcloth. After I get out, I make sure to put a very moisturizing lip balm on like this one from First Aid Beauty. It’s best to use this balm when your lips are still slightly damp to ensure it soaks in. I love this product because it wears well under lipstick and lasts forever. I’ve had mine 6 months, and it looks like I haven’t even touched it!
  2. Prior to applying lipstick, I apply this primer from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This primer is a total game-changer you guys! It acts as a balm and really helps against any flaking, feathering or bleeding!
  3. Line lips with a nude lip liner like this one from Make Up For Ever. Make sure to both outline AND fill in your lips with a liner as this helps against bleeding or feathering! (NOTE: I do not use any lip liner with Anastasia Liquid Lipsticks as they don’t adhere to it that well).
    1. Pro-tip: on super chapped-lip days, I’ll often just wear this liner (filled in!) and top it with an everyday balm like this one, which isn’t as thick as the First Aid Beauty, or top it with argan oil.
  4. Apply lipstick and blot with a tissue to remove excess color!

Lipsticks for Holidays, Lipstick for Holidays, DIY Lip Scrub, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Lip Primer, Fall Lip Colors Lipsticks for Holidays, Lipstick for Holidays, DIY Lip Scrub, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Lip Primer, Fall Lip Colors

Now, on to my DIY lip scrub! This is a mix I originally picked up from Pinterest years ago and have changed slightly over the years to get it exactly how I like it. I guarantee you have most if not all of these ingredients in your kitchen! I store my lip scrub in little glass canisters like you see in the photo. You can pick them up from Amazon here (super cheap!), and they’re handy for liquid travel storage as well!

So there you have it! My top 5 lipsticks for the holidays as well as my DIY lip scrub recipe!

I hope everyone has had a great start to their week!! We had another busy weekend with a Halloween celebration Saturday, and my sister’s family over on Sunday. Tonight we’re going to a Minnesota Wild game, which I’m pretty excited about. I’m not a huge sports girl, but if I had to choose, hockey and football are definitely my faves! I’m definitely looking forward to a calmer weekend coming up.

Happy Exfoliating!

PS Sorry for the low photo quality, someone forgot to charge her camera! 🙄😋

5 Face Sunscreens You Need For Summer

If you’re like me, sunscreen is a necessity just about anytime of the year. And I’m not only saying this because I’m naturally as pale as Casper and genetically pre-disposed to skin cancer. I mean, that’s a big part of it, BUT I also believe in preserving my skin to look as youthful as possible for as long as possible. If you expose yourself too much sun over time, you run the risk of having your skin look like your favorite leather bag and, let’s be honest, that’s just not cute. Finding the perfect sunscreen for your face is difficult. But I’ve gathered a list of my top five, non-comedogenic, face sunscreens to get you through this summer and beyond!

I.SUNSCREEN: Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen (55 SPF)

Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen is my go-to sunscreen in the Summer. It’s 55 SPF, break-out free, oil-free and water-resistant. However, although it is lighter-weight than regular sunscreen, it’s still too heavy to wear under a full face of makeup in my opinion. I use this when I’m out on the beach, hiking or having a no-makeup day.

II. PRIMER SUNSCREEN: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (15 SPF)

This primer acts as both a base for your favorite foundation and a sunscreen because it contains 15 SPF. I use this primer a lot in the winter or during the summer when I know I’m going to be in and out of the sun throughout the day (i.e. running errands). This primer also does not cause photo flashback. Flashback is something to watch out for when wearing sunscreen underneath makeup. If you take a photo of yourself with flash on, your face will literally “flashback” and appear A LOT whiter than your body. You may actually look like Casper then! So going with a SPF below 20 when you know you may be taking photos should avoid this issue!

III. BB CREAM: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (30 SPF)

Sometimes if I’m in a rush or having a lazy day, I’ll throw on a light BB cream and head out the door. Maybelline Dream BB cream is my favorite. Their regular BB cream contains 30 SPF, which is perfect for everyday wear. They also have a BB cream that contains 2% salicylic acid but NO SPF. If you’re a guy or girl that breaks out easily but still wants a lightly tinted cream to even out your skin tone, this is definitely the BB cream for you. Just make sure to use a primer or lotion with SPF since the BB cream doesn’t have it.

IV: TANNER: Jergens Natural Glow Daily Face Moisturizer (20 SPF)

Jergens Natural Glow Face Moisturizer is my go-to all year round and especially in the summer. It creates an even, natural glow while also containing 20 SPF – a win-win, right?! I break out SO easily, and this daily moisturizer does not break me out. I will often use this in conjunction with the Jergens body moisturizer in between self-tanning sessions to avoid streaking and to make the tan last longer.

V: TO REAPPLY OVER MAKEUP: Kate Sommerville UncompliKated Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray (50 SPF)

I stumbled across this recently at the recommendation of a co-worker and am now obsessed. Have you ever applied a daily sunscreen, completed your makeup routine for say an afternoon barbecue and then avoided reapplying sunscreen later for fear of messing up your makeup you spent so long applying? You’re not alone! This spray will solve all of your problems. Not only is it 50 SPF, but you can spray it over your already completed make-up routine without fear of messing anything up. What more can you ask for?

I own all of these sunscreens and have used all of them at various times. If you’re going to have any in your arsenal, I’d say start with the basic Neutrogena Sunscreen and a Primer sunscreen (Hourglass or other brand) to ensure you’re covered every day of the week.  Shop any of these products below or click the links in the post!

Do you have any sunscreens you use on a daily basis that you can’t live without? Let me know in the comments below!
