Happy Wednesday friends! Half way through the week! Kev and I are staying busy with our home to do’s and trying to stick to our schedules, lol! Always easier said than done. Like I mentioned Monday, I started that new group fitness challenge to keep me motivated and Kev and I are opening windows and getting outside when we can!

Monday afternoon we took a walk down to the parkway. We only saw a couple of people (from a far distance of course!). But it was good to get out and enjoy some of the sun + fresh air! It’s so important for our overall health to get out and get moving. Even if it’s just for a few minutes a day, and you’re just walking around your neighborhood!

It was only 39º, but the sun made it feel so much warmer! I only ended up needing a sweatshirt, light rain jacket and sneakers. All of which are on sale! I recently picked up this new rain jacket from Backcountry in this gorgeous light green-blue color. It actually comes in cream, but I had to get this green, I just love it! I know, very out of character for my neutral loving self. Comes in lots of other colors too! Perfect weight for spring & obviously works well in transition weather. My two long winter puffer jackets are this same brand, and I’ve had one since 2009! They last SO long and are still so affordable. My rain jacket is only $59 right now!

I also wore this super cute Patagonia graphic sweatshirt layered over a basic layering tee & leggings. My white sneakers are on sale and make the perfect accessory for any casual spring outfit! Also, my Ray-Ban sunglasses are on sale!!

You can get 20% off one full-price item at Backcountry.com right now with code 20FULLPRICE!! For any additional full price items use code LOMEYER15 for 15% off (exclusions apply)!! They’re also having a ton of other sales site wide! As you guys know, Backcountry is my fave for outdoor gear! This is the perfect time to grab those seasonal staples + new spring gear majorly discounted. They have every brand we love like Sorel, Patagonia & The North Face + more like Free people & Ray-Ban. Also their customer service is phenomenal! I recently had to use it when a package of mine was stolen, and they were so kind and prompt in handling the situation.

xx

One of my and Kevin’s favorite things to do on the weekends is to get out and explore our city! If you follow along on stories, this probably isn’t news to you! We’re often out hitting up a new restaurant (or Blue Door Pub for the 800th time haha!), scoping out a new brewery or going to a local festival on the weekends. Saturday “date days” have become a fun tradition for us and, like I’ve mentioned before, is something we do no matter how cold it gets!

This weekend, our date day consisted of painting the front bedroom (perks of being first time homeowners). So we went out for a quick lunch on Sunday instead. I wore this new sherpa lined jacket I picked up recently and, to be honest, didn’t take it off once in the restaurant. It’s so cozy and comfortable, I forgot I was wearing it! I shared it with you girls when I got home, and you all loved it so much I decided to bring it to the blog!

I have a LOT of puffer and wool jackets but really nothing like this jacket from Volcom. It’s sherpa lined only on the body. So, while it’s warmer, it’s not gonna make you sweat when the temps start rising. It’s perfect for those upper 20-50º days that are quickly approaching. Paired with this easy layering tee from Free People, a pair of skinny jeans, and a lightweight beanie/mittens you have the perfect winter outfit that can transition directly into spring.

Also, I have to give a shoutout to these Sorel boots. I actually own them in two colors and they are SUCH a closet staple. If you’ve been around, you know I have a *somewhat* unhealthy addiction to Sorel boots, lol! They’re just so good! Being they were a top seller of 2019, I know they’re a favorite of yours too! These black wedge Sorels, are unlined but waterproof. So they’re not quite as warm as my fur-lined Sorels (AKA great for warmer winter days) but still keep you from slipping on ice/snow + keep your feet dry! They’re the perfect early/late winter closet staple!

The folks at Backcountry have been SO amazing and are giving us all a discount code! First time customers can get 15% off their orders at Backcountry.com with code LOMEYER15 (some exclusions apply!). This month, Backcountry will be donating up to $7k from purchases with my code to their partner, The Nature Conservancy, to support their recovery efforts in Australia. This literally makes me want to cry! The fires were so devastating, and just know that your purchase this month is going to an amazing cause.

ALSO, their Semi-Annual sale is still going on! 50% off Patagonia, Sorel, The North Face + more!! Sharing some of my favorites from their site below!

Are you getting cabin fever yet? It’s getting to that point in winter where I have trouble remembering my days, and Kevin and I have been itching to get outside. It gets sooo easy to hibernate this time of year (especially when it’s SO cold out), and I have to admit I am totally guilty of spending way too much time inside during these winter months.

Kevin, on the other hand, has always LOVED hiking in the winter. And I have always thought he was crazy! But, he goes out no matter the temps and loves it. Like I’ve told you guys before, he hikes all year round but he especially loves the winter because the state parks are so empty, everything is so silent and everything looks so gorgeous when it’s covered by snow.

And, now that I’ve gone out with him, I totally agree.
We had a great time hiking together, falling in the snow, and spending time just US two. Given the very real risk of frostbite, we didn’t have our phones out besides to snap a few photos, and it felt really good to disconnect from everyone else. We’re already planning the next time we’re going out! If you’re looking for a great way to spend time with your guy, gal or fam and get out of the house this winter, head to your nearest state park! I promise you’ll love it!!

If you’re not up for hiking there are so many other ways to get outdoors this winter with your Sig O! You could…

  • Go to a hockey game!
  • Go ice skating!
  • Take a weekend trip to a cozy cabin up North!
  • Go snowshoeing (which I’ve heard is a KILLER workout)
  • Just play in the snow!
  • Go skiing/snowboarding
  • Go sledding!
  • Check out your local winter festivals (Minne has a TON)
  • Go on an outdoor run or walk (we do this 1-2X a week – walk not a run lol).

That being said, make sure you bundle up when you go out! When we went out this past weekend, it was a whopping 8º outside! But, we felt bundled up and prepared. Before going out, I knew I needed to grab some new gear from Backcountry because Kevin looks like abominable snowman every time he goes out, and I was no where near that prepared, lol!

I grabbed this pair of Merrell winter hiking boots and was SO impressed by them. Kevin told me to go with Merrell for any hiking – summer or winter. They are the most sturdy, waterproof and don’t slip AT all. And he was right, I had no issues. And, although they’re a bit lower on the ankle, you can tie them very tight so snow can’t get in and make your feet wet. I sized up .5, and they fit perfectly with thick socks!

I also picked up this new Patagonia puffer jacket, which was a hot topic in DM’s this weekend. Funny enough, when we met up with a few of our friends (the same ones who go backpacking in Europe and introduced me to Patagonia), our friend Brian was wearing the men’s version of my jacket – lol! So the style works for men and women and is DEFINITELY gearhead approved. It’s very lightweight but still warm enough that it kept me cozy on our hike! I love it so much I pretty much have stopped using my other jackets since I got it. I sized up to a S to layer over sweaters.

And, because hiking is all about layering (or so Kevin told me!), I had lots of layers in case we hiked on warm day! I wore this super cute olive green long sleeve and my puffer vest under my jacket. This long sleeve is so versatile, a great weight for spring and would be really cute with jeans too! I also wore fleece leggings and WISH I had grabbed a pair of snow pants. Lesson learned for next time. If you’re hiking in 20º+, you’ll be find in just leggings. And, of course, I had to wear my fleece lined mittens and beanie!

First time customers can get 15% off their orders at Backcountry.com with code LOMEYER15 (some exclusions apply!) – AKA you can save on pretty much everything I wore out to hike! Woooop!! ALSO, they just launched their huge end of season sale with 50% off Patagonia, Sorel, The North Face + more!! A similar version of my puffer is on sale & I LOVE these Sorels that are marked down too!

Also, I have to give a HUGE shout out to Backcountry’s customer service. If you were watching stories last week you know that I was a victim of a porch pirate Thursday. Well, they took ALL of my gear for this weekend’s hike. Since we had this planned a few weeks out we didn’t want to cancel (especially since we were hoping to see the fresh snow from Friday’s blizzard #priorities). Anyway, I messaged Backcountry on their chat messenger right away about it, and they overnighted a new package, no questions asked, the same day. I didn’t have to pay anything and the whole process took 5 minutes. It arrived Friday, and I had everything I needed for Sunday. Could not recommend them more for any outdoor gear you need!

xoxo

Last Minute Gifts for Her from Backcountry

fleece | vest | hat | boots | leggings (similar)

Last weekend, I shared that Kevin and I were out exploring our neighborhood on a cool 15º morning. A majority of you thought we were crazy, but those of you who are local to Minne know that’s just normal – haha! Winter doesn’t stop us from getting out and enjoying our weekends, no matter how cold it is! Something I love about living in the Cities is how there are gorgeous trails and parks around every turn. This spot is only a few blocks from our new house and is just as gorgeous in the Winter as it is in the Summer.

That being said, we definitely layered up a bit more than we would’ve during the Summer! I’ve been eyeing this Patagonia T-Snap Fleece + Vest from Backcountry for YEARS and finally decided to grab both as an early Christmas gift to myself. Getting new Winter gear for Christmas was a regular occurrence in our house growing up (as I’m sure it is in every Northern household). We would inevitably grow out of our cold weather gear or have a mitten/hat that needed replacing! This fleece + my vest make the perfect combo for those chilly days. They’re a super warm combo (I layered a long-sleeve under my fleece and had no issues!). And, they’re fashionable without being bulky! For reference, I’m wearing S in both. Would definitely size UP in the fleece – it runs small!

And, I finally picked up a new color in my favorite snow boots. If you don’t have these Sorel boots, what are you waiting for?! The”camel brown” color was a November bestseller. So many of you girlies love these boots just as much as I do! I grabbed a black pair so I’d have an excuse to wear them with more outfits (lol). My sister has them in grey and loves them just as much as we do! During our walk, I trekked through 6-9 inches of snow and had no issues. My feet stayed perfectly warm and comfortable – these babies are MN winter approved! Also, per follower recs I ended up sizing up .5 in this pair and have MUCH more room for socks. Would recommend sizing up .5!

I also picked up a fleece lined beanie, which in my opinion is a winter necessity! I had one all through college and loved it so much I even made my friend Brian crawl under someone’s porch to find it after I lost it once – lol! If that’s not dedication to the cozy cause, I don’t know what is!

I’m super excited because Backcountry has graciously given me a discount code to share with all of YOU! You can get 15% off your first purchase on Backcountry.com (exclusions apply) with code LOMEYER15. How cool is that?! Time to stock up on more Sorel boots & Patagonia fleeces – haha!

Backcountry is my go to spot for grabbing my outdoor gear. They have the biggest selection of brands, a huge range of sizes and great sales year round! Plus you can’t beat their free 2-day shipping for orders over $50! They still have SO many gifts that will arrive in time for 12/24. I’ve included some of my favorite gifts for her below. Lots of you said Sorel Boots and a Patagonia/Northface was on your list. With my discount code, now is the perfect time to treat yourself or that loved one in your life!
