5 Style Hacks Every Petite Should Know

Popular Style blogger Lauren Meyer shares 5 Style Hacks Every Petite Should Know; Petite Style

You asked, I’m answering! Spilling all of my petite style tips & tricks for you all today. Let’s just all agree, it’s hard being a petite girl in a regular-sized world! Those “must-have” jeans extend for 5 inches past your feet, and the oversized sweater that looked so cute online somehow drowns you in person. And, not enough retailers (in my opinion), carry petite sizes of their most popular items. But, that seems to be changing. Over the last few years, I’ve noticed retailers providing more petite options. The only problem is is that most of the petite sizes are online only. Luckily, that’s where I come in!

Consider me your 5’2″ guide for how to find the petite items you desperately need! From my Instagram survey yesterday, there were a few reoccurring themes – the need for petite pants (not jeans), petite leggings, and petite jeans that can be worn with ankle booties. So, today I’m answering all of your requests plus a few more! Because this is a post on petite sizing and styling, I do think it’s necessary to give out my sizing for a frame of reference. As I said, I’m 5’2″ and usually between 105-110lbs. I wear XXS/XS in regular sized tops and sweaters OR, preferably, a SP in petite tops and 25P/0short/0petite in petite pants/denim. On the rare occasion, at LOFT in particular, I will size down one to a XSP or 24P – their petite sizes sometimes run large.

5 PETITE STYLE HACKS

our fave faux leather leggings now come in petite!

Popular Style blogger Lauren Meyer shares 5 Style Hacks Every Petite Should Know; Petite Style

an example of how I cuff this regular length pair

  1. LEGGINGS: By far, my most asked petite style question is – where do you find your leggings? You know, the kind that don’t bunch for miles around your ankles? So, I’m not opposed to buying regular length leggings although I have a “hack” to make them shorter. I also have a few retailers I go to for petite leggings in general.

First, You gals see me where these leggings from Amazon and these from Nordstrom most often. Neither are petite. I find that the bunching around the ankles for these two are minimal. If I’m wearing high-top sneaks or booties, I’ll roll them under so you can’t see the cuff. For me, this works a majority of the time.

But, that’s not really ideal, right? The reason I have those two at the present moment is because I picked them up on major sale (anyone surprised?! lol). Otherwise, I have also purchased petite length leggings from LOFT, Express, Athleta and Spanx. These LOFT leggings are a great budget friendly buy but, be forewarned, they can be see-through when you bend over. Same goes for this pair from Express. Athleta and Spanx, although usually a bit pricier, will for SURE last longer, be more comfortable (didn’t believe this until my sister bought me my first pair), and will not be see-through. I recently found this under $60 pair from Athleta (Athleta labels leggings as “tights”) and our fave faux leather leggings from Spanx also now come in petite.

Popular Style blogger Lauren Meyer shares 5 Style Hacks Every Petite Should Know; Petite Style

2. DENIM: And my second most asked questions is where to find petite denim that works with booties. Ideally so that you can actually show off that cute frayed hem 😉 I have another hack for this and then a retailer that always comes through for bootie approved denim!

The hack – If you’re looking for a “cuffed” look with booties, there’s a great denim trend going on right now that, if I didn’t know better, I’d say was a subversive attack by petites on the regular length world. Ankle length denim. But, the trick is to buy the ankle length denim in regular length. That way they fall right to the ends of your legs – like normal petite denim would. You can then cuff them 1-1.5 inches and wear with booties. You could, of course, just buy petite full length denim, but I always find it’s just a little too long to do this with for some reason. For cuffing, you want the denim to be almost too short when left unrolled that way you’re not dealing with too much fabric.

I like this “hack” because there are a lot more options for fashionable denim in ankle length since it’s trendy! Yesterday, I shared this brand by Nordstrom on stories again. Endless ankle length options and most are under $50. They do run TTS for the most part but some (like this pair) run large so read reviews!

And, if you’re looking for super cute petite denim that you don’t have to cuff, I HIGHLY recommend heading to this retailer. Their short sizes work for even the tallest booties, and they have tons of styles that are seemingly always on sale. The black pair you see me wear frequently (above) are from this retailer. These run TTS.

3. PANTS: Luckily, when I worked in the corporate world, I could get by with casual attire most of the time. And the few times I had to wear (petite) dress pants, they ended up being high-waters. 5-6 years ago, I refused to shop for dress pants at LOFT because of this issue. But, 2 years ago, I tried them again, and they fit perfectly! I can only assume they changed up their sizing a bit. What I love about their dress pants is that they’re in style, on budget (& on sale every other weekend) AND great quality! Another brand to try, that’s often forgot about, is Express. They have great workwear in general and their petite dress pants selection is no exception. And, they’re currently having a 40% off sale!

4. DRESSES: There’s no easy way around this one – I’ve found it’s a ton of trial and error. When you can, I always suggest buying dresses in petite sizes to avoid returns or alterations. In addition to Express, ASOS, a company I was first introduced to while living abroad, has a great selection of affordable petite dresses. Caution, just like Topshop, they run “small” because it’s UK sizing. So size up 2 from what you would normally do (I get US4 for example). I highly recommend using their “best fit” guide on the product’s page to find your best fit! And, FYI, if you are a Nordstrom card member, you have automatic credit toward their alterations department!

5. CREATE LENGTH: And the last petite topic I often get questions about is how I manage to wear oversized sweaters or tops without looking like I’m 2 ft tall. The struggle! Two hacks play into this.

First, boots and heels are your BEST FRIENDS. They don’t have to be high, but buy a style that sets you up an inch or two. Seems like a no brainer right? But, take it a step further. Pair your over the knee black boots, with black leggings, and it’ll make your legs look like they go on for days. Or, tuck your pants into your booties. That way it’s hard to tell where your legs end, thus, making them appear longer. And, lastly, I love the over the knee boot + dress trend, but that’s something not all of us petite gals can rock. As a rule of thumb, you should always have a full hands width between the top of the boots and bottom of your dress. And, because most OTK boots extend higher on us than most people, you may want to opt for knee high boots to avoid a dress that’s too short!

And, if you want to hop on the oversized sweater or top trend there are two things I suggest. One, if petite sizing isn’t an option, try to find a regular length top that’s cropped. It’ll be full length on most of us petites. Like this top I wore earlier this week that I found, by the reviews, to run short on regular people. Or, size down TWO in regular sized tops! Second, if you are wearing an oversized cardigan – petite or regular – try to wear something more slimming underneath and tuck it into a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans. We all know I love these camis for tucking in and also have this fitted tee on the way. By wearing a fitted top and skinny jeans with your oversized cardi, you avoid the risk of looking like you’re drowning in all of your clothes. And, by tucking your top into your denim, you’re giving the illusion of longer legs.

Whew! So many petite hacks! I hope you all found this helpful!

We’re off to spend the weekend with some of our closest friends! Be sure to follow along on stories!

Easy Chic Fall Outfit + Weekend Sales

Happy Friday everyone! We made it *pats self on back* 😋

It has been quite a while since I shared a single outfit post with you all. So long that I can’t even remember when I last did it! Like I mentioned on Wednesday, I got SO many ideas from all of you on Fall content you want to see. Things like boot & jacket round ups, blog posts just on petite clothing, different ways to style staples etc. And, trust me, your girl is working on those! But, I actually pushed a post I had scheduled back after getting this cardigan in the mail yesterday because it’s TOO GOOD not to share immediately. Plus it’s on sale, comes in 4 colors and a multitude of special sizes so I feel obligated to do my due diligence and share it with the masses 😉.

If you were following along last Spring, you may remember my post on an easy chic look for springtime. I posted an all white outfit with one of my favorite lightweight cardigans. Although I’ll never say you can’t wear white after Labor Day (who doesn’t want to be rule breaker?), there’s something about wearing all black in Fall and Winter that just screams chic. And, it’s the easiest combo to recreate from your closet and throw on and go when you’re in a hurry!

Cardigan | Cami | Jeans | Boots (last year – similar; budget friendly version HERE) | Belt | Horn Necklace | Choker Necklace | Lipstick in shade “Firenze”

For this outfit, I paired this super soft camel cardi with a basic cami and my favorite black denim. Like I mentioned, this cardi comes in 4 colors and any of them (including black), would work for this look! But, you could easily pair any other color cardi, jacket or blazer with this base. The beauty of a black on black base is that it works for just about any outfit combo and allows you to create endless outfits.

To break up and elevate the look a bit, I suggest adding a belt. I’m wearing my Gucci dupe (or Fucci as a follower called it 😂) that looks almost identical to the real belt but is only $24 + Prime ship! Let me take a second to say that if you’re in a market for a new belt you NEED this one. The quality is mind blowing for the price! And, I’ve had multiple people reach out not even realizing it was a fake!

In terms of sizing, the cardi comes in regular, petite & plus sizes. It does fit TTS (wearing SP) but is going quickly in this color! It’s currently 30% off making it just under $42. Which is a steal for a sweater from this retailer in my opinion! My cami comes in a ton of colors (I own 4 lol) and also fits TTS. It’s on sale for only $14! And, my denim, only $39, comes with a raw hem, which is perfect for wearing with booties. However, it’s also slim enough to pair with over-the-knee or knee high boots like I did here. It does fit TTS, and I’m wearing the “short” length (comes in short, regular & tall sizes!).

A few things before we part ways for the weekend! There are a couple of big sales to take note of! Loft is currently having 30% off all tops & sweaters! You can find my picks here. And, Express is 30-60% off site-wide. I did a huge try on saved to LIKEtoKNOW.it last weekend and you can find the videos under the “Express” highlight on my Instagram!

And, lastly, I’m heading somewhere fun tomorrow with my best blogger babes! Be sure to follow along on the ‘gram to be part of the fun!

Happy Friday everyone!

September Instagram Roundup – Top 10 Blog Bestsellers

Popular Style Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares September Instagram Roundup - Top 10 Blog Bestsellers

Hello & Happy Wednesday peeps!

It is officially October (how, I swear July was yesterday?!). Time flies when you’re shopping the good deals and enjoying the beautiful Minnesota Fall weather! 😋

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a blog bestsellers roundup. And, I know you all have loved them in the past, so I thought it was time to start them up again! If you’re new around here, I’m rounding up the top 10 bestselling items with blog readers/Instagram followers for the month of September! Some of these will be old faithfuls (like these leggings), but some are new finds like this $15 blanket scarf. $15! Need I say more?

Without further ado, the top 10 bestselling items for September:

  1. Spanx Leggings: These leggings were a huge hit this month. Maybe it’s because I wear them constantly (see below for evidence). Or maybe, it’s because they’re the perfect mix of comfy and chic. I’m willing to bet both! I waited to grab these leggings for almost a year because of the price tag. Faux leather leggings can’t possibly be worth that price, right?! Wrong! I’m now deciding which version to get next that’s how much I love them! They look like real leather more so than my budget friendly faux leather leggings, and they suck you in at all the right places. I suggest sizing up one size unless you want some serious tummy control! Wearing size S here for reference (normally XS/0/25 in leggings & pants). You can also find them in a petite version here (eeek!!!) and a more budget friendly option I also own here.

2. Loft Bar-Back Sweater: One of my favorite purchases recently, this bar-back sweater was also one of the most purchased items this past month! The color just screams fall and, even at full price, it’s affordable! I’ve styled it a few ways because the color is so versatile. It looks great with denim and olive colored pants! If rust-brown isn’t your style, it also comes in a light pink color. I’m wearing a SP here & it fits TTS (comes in regular & petite sizes).

3. Amazon Henley: This best-selling item is actually the budget friendly version of the top I’m wearing below. But, I have several blogger friends who own the Amazon version and love it! Safe to say, it’s a good dupe! Coming in under $20 + prime shipping it’s really a no brainer. This style is perfect for lounging and wearing out on the weekends! It looks equally cute on it’s own or with a scarf. There’s also a ton of ways to style it – unbuttoned and tied, tucked in, untucked or undone like a cardigan. As with all Amazon items, I suggest reading the reviews to ensure you get the size that’s best for you!

4. Amazon Blanket Scarf: I feel like I hit the jackpot with this $15 scarf! Not only is it prime eligible, but the quality shocked me! I also own it in the blue version, but really like this red and brown version for Fall. It seems to go with everything and is easy to wear as a regular scarf or as a wrap! Like I said in my capsule wardrobe post, a blanket scarf is a Fall staple so picking up this budget friendly one is a must!

5. Cardigan: Another piece from my capsule wardrobe collection, this burnt-orange cardigan has been a best-seller for several months. It’s perfect for layering and comes in tons of colors. So, if you’re like me, you buy all the colors considering it’s only $49! This one doesn’t come in petite sizes; however, I found that sizing down one does the trick. I’m wearing a XXS here and normally would be a XS in sweaters (SP in petite!)

Popular Style Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares September Instagram Roundup - Top 10 Blog Bestsellers

6. Zella Leggings: My Zella leggings were another hot item on the blog in September! They feel like Athleta or Lululemon quality for about half the price ($58). They’re not see through and have been yoga tested by yours truly! If you’re looking for an even more budget friendly alternative, these $25 leggings from Amazon gave the Zella ones a run for their money! Both leggings fit TTS (wearing XS in both for reference). Neither come in petite, unfortunately, but given they’re high waisted the bunching on the ankles wasn’t bad enough for me to return them.

Popular Style Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares September Instagram Roundup - Top 10 Blog Bestsellers

7. Aerie Sweatshirt: Are we sensing a theme here? Seems that you all love your comfy clothes as much as I do! My mom & dad could certainly attest to my love for comfy clothes given the hoard of sweatshirts I kept on the back of my door in high school 😂. This sweatshirt does not disappoint! In my opinion, it’s the equivalent of the light pink sweatshirt that you all loved from the Spring & Summer! It’s budget friendly (under $50) and is made to wear over leggings – longer in back. It’s comes in a few colors, I have the Koko Brown color here but also love the plum color! I’m wearing an XS and suggest sizing down one if you’re looking for a tighter fit. It’s definitely oversized!

Popular Style Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares September Instagram Roundup - Top 10 Blog Bestsellers

8. Loft Pocket Cardigan: Not to reference another post for the third time (lol), but remember when we discussed the Pantone color report in the capsule wardrobe post? This is one of the “trendy” colors for Fall! Shocked? I was too! Fall to me is all about muted browns, greens and reds. Purple? You probably belong in Spring. But, think again! This color is one of the big ones for Fall and is a great way to bring a brighter feel into the gloomy months ahead! This cardigan is ridiculously soft and is perfect for layering! It fits TTS (wearing SP) and comes in regular, petite AND plus sizes!!! Hurry if you want this one though, last time I checked sizes were flying off the shelf. See, told you it was a trend worth noting! 😉

9. Loft Tweed Hoodie: Another trend that’s big this Fall is tweed. And I love this casual take on the trend! This sweatshirt is the perfect weight for these transition months and is one that is easy to wear out without feeling “frumpy”. It would look equally cute paired with jeans and booties. Coming in under $70 it’s definitely on the pricier side but, in my opinion, worth every penny considering you can dress it up or down! I’m wearing a XS here and it fits TTS (works for regular & petite!)

Popular Style Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares September Instagram Roundup - Top 10 Blog Bestsellers

10. Abercrombie Fleece: And last, but certainly not least, is the infamous Abercrombie Fleece. This has been a popular item since it first appeared on my Instagram 2 months back or so. It really reminds me of my North Face for a few reasons. It’s a slimmer fit (not oversized, like this fleece). And, it’s cozy but also stylish. However, it’s a fraction of the price of what a North Face would be! It comes in about 5 colors including a really pretty olive and white one. I’m wearing an XS here and would say to size up if you want more of an oversized fit!

And, in case you’re curious, a majority of you do your shopping at Nordstrom, Loft, Amazon, American Eagle & Abercrombie. All great quality retailers that are also budget friendly!

Out of these bestsellers, what was your favorite?

See you all Friday for a post on my skincare routine! Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one!

6 Affordable Cardigans You NEED for Fall 2018

Popular Style Blogger Lauren Meyer of The Lo Meyer Blog shares Affordable Cardigans You Need for Fall 2018

Hey, hi, hello there! Long time no blog post, eh? Well, in my mind, going a week without a post is a LONG TIME. Providing a life update at the end of this post but first, fashion 😋

September is officially Fall in my mind, which means I no longer have to be as ashamed to wear sweaters in 70 degree weather (lol). But in reality, we are experiencing some amazing Fall temps right now in MN. And, although it may still be warm where you are, those chillier days are right around the corner! So, it feels like the perfect time to do an affordable cardigan roundup!

Cardigans are the bread and butter of my Fall & Winter wardrobe. They can easily dress up or down an outfit and are the perfect layering piece. Plus, if you have few neutral go-to cardi’s, you have endless outfit combinations! I’ve picked my top cardigans you NEED for Fall all under $80!

The Cozy Cardi : BY FAR, the #1 loved cardi on the blog right now. And, I’ve only shared it once on Instagram. It’s just that good! This cozy cardi looks just like Free People but is actually from one of my fave online boutiques – ChicWish. They have tons of great fall staples at affordable prices. And, I’m continually impressed by their quality! I may have included another one of their cardi’s below because they’re staples in my closet! I’m wearing XS/S here – definitely an oversized fit!

The Transition Season Cardi: I’ve shared this cardigan from Nordstrom numerous times, including in this blog post. I love it so much I have it in two colors! It comes in regular and petite sizes, and I got my true size (SP). It’s the perfect weight for transition season (Summer to Fall; Winter to Spring) and is one that can easily be worn throughout the year!

The Perfect Layering Cardi: This cardi has been a go-to of mine for the last two years. I purchased it in black and green last year, and this burnt orange color this year. It’s very affordable, coming in at $49 and comes in a ton of colors. Because this cardi is on the lighter side, I like to layer it over long sleeves, like I did with this chambray shirt. I would suggest sizing down one – wearing XXS here for reference.

The Chic Cardi: Say hello to the cardi of my dreams 😍. This cardi had been on my wish list all last year so I jumped at the opportunity to pick it up in this gorgeous burnt orange color. It also comes in black, grey and pink. Another gem from ChicWish, this one is perfectly oversized and perfect to dress up or down! I’m wearing a XS here and would say it fits TTS.

The Staple Cardi: I always need one boyfriend cardi in my closet. Why? Because it is the casual layering piece to have since the style goes with everything. This one is perfect to wear to work (calling all teachers!) and wear on the weekend. I call that a win-win! Wearing XS here for reference.

The Second Cozy Cardi: Because you can never have too many cozy things, right?! This one is super soft, and I’m not lying when I say I’ve slept in it – lol! It’s going in and out of stock in the white color but is still fully stocked in the maroon (which is perfect for Fall & Winter!).

If you had to choose one – which cardi would be a staple in your closet?

Now, for a little life update! If you follow me on the ‘gram, you know that Kev & I moved to the suburbs last weekend! We loved living in the city, but wanted more room. And, when we found an apartment that overlooked a pond and wooded area, we jumped on it. Those of you who know Kevin personally know that he is living for our porch right now! Mr. Outdoors!

Besides the move, August was a horrible month for me in terms of migraines. I had three really bad migraines with numerous headaches in between. This is not normal! I’ve mentioned before that I have chronic headaches and migraines, but three in one month gives me flashbacks to high school. A time I care not to relive if I can help it (lol)! Knock on wood, they’ve been a lot better this month so far, and I’m crediting that to the move and taking a lot more time off from work than I normally would. When work doesn’t feel like “work,” it’s hard to remember that you need a mental break for your general well-being. Taking some time away from staring at a screen constantly also likely has something to do with it. So, I’m back to our regularly scheduled posts, and have made some lifestyle modifications so that hopefully this type of headache cycle doesn’t happen again!

And, to end on a happy note! I hit 30K Instagram followers and 2M monthly Pinterest views last week and could not be more excited 😆In reading this blog, shopping from my links, commenting and engaging with me, you’re supporting a dream. And that means everything to me! Thank you for all of you support this last year, and I know this is only the beginning of our fashion journey together!

See you all Friday!

xoxo
