There’s something about kimonos that instantly makes me think of my college years. You see, I was friends with a group of people that probably would’ve been better off going to school in the late 60’s rather than the early 2010’s. Boho chic was the name of the game, and everyone had a tapestry on their wall, and there was always at least two people with Grateful Dead shirts on at every party (my husband being one of them). So, when kimonos started trending this spring and summer, I felt a sense of nostalgia and curiosity. I always tended to stay on the side of trendy v. hippy in my college days but wouldn’t describe my style as boho now. If I was gonna jump on the kimono band wagon, it had to be for the right piece…

…and so came to pass the incident at Target approximately two weeks ago. I wasn’t even looking for a kimono and was completely blindsided by the rack of them I saw in the bag & sunnies section. Not having the typical defenses up that I have when going through Target’s clothing section, I was completely powerless and put the kimono in my cart without a second thought. But, I’m happy to say, I’m now completely head-over-heels in love, totally obsessed with this thing!

I’ve linked this exact style and a few others I love in its price range above & below. What I love about this kimono, besides the price, is that I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing my style for a trend. The stripes and pastel colors give it a classic feel, while the weaved fabric detail and frayed edges give it that boho look. I wore this outfit out for a dinner with my parents + Kev, and it was perfect for a casual night out. These wedges have been my go-to this summer (and they’re total dupes!), and I own this strappy cami in three colors #noshame.

This or really any kimono would be great styled with a swimsuit for a beach look (which is actually how I think it’s intended to be styled) or with jeans and a tee like I did below for a casual work-day outfit. I plan to bring this along on our roadtrip and will likely find a reason to wear it every other day!
