My Self Tanning Routine

Happy Friday friends! What I use for self-tanner is probably my #1 most asked question. It’s highly likely that I’m a direct descendent of Casper lol – I’m naturally SO pale. But, I love to have a nice, healthy glow. It truly makes me feel better, like I’ve actually been outside, soaking up some vitamin D. It also helps you appear more “toned,” so I always do it when I know I’m gonna be wearing shorts, tees, dresses or swimsuits!

I’ve tried a number of tanning products over the last 15 years but have narrowed down my process to the following steps. I find this is the simplest and quickest process for me to achieve a deep, natural and lasting tan!

  1. Exfoliate & Shave // You want to create a smooth base for your tan so it’s important that you exfoliate off any dry/dead skin you may have and shave any unwanted hairs! I personally love using this exfoliating mitt – it works SO well. I follow up with my go to razor that leaves my skin smooth for a week – AKA I don’t shave off my tan a few days in!
  2. Lotion Up! // After you shower it’s important to apply lotion to spots that are typically dry to prevent the tanner from “sticking” to those areas and making them darker. You’ll want to apply lotion to your eblows, wrists, knees and ankles/heels.
  3. Apply Tanner! // Using a tanning mitt so your hands don’t get orange, apply 3-4 pumps of St Tropez Tanning Mousse (I use Extra Dark for my pale self) and rub it in using circular motions going up your body. I start with my arms, blend into my chest/neck/back and stomach then do my legs last! I apply 3-4 pumps for each area of my body.
    • Warning: The tanner goes on VERY DARK. It will not be this dark when you rinse it off. It goes on darker to show you where you’ve already applied it!
  4. Process // Wait 8+ hours to let it process. Technically you’re supposed to rinse after 8 hours – which you totally can – but I usually let it sit for a few more hours to get a really deep tan. During this time you can go about your day or sleep! Some of the tanner may transfer to your sheets or clothes so just be wary of that!
  5. Rinse // Rinse your tan off with WATER ONLY. Avoid any soap & don’t wash your hair – I make this rinse off as quick as possible. PAT dry to avoid rubbing any tan off.
  6. Lotion Up! // After drying, I apply this gradual tanning lotion all over. It’s natural, hydrating and dries super quickly. Plus, it doesn’t transfer to clothing! I apply this lotion every 2-3 days to maintain my tan.
  7. Repeat every 14 days or so when you notice your tan fading!

HELPFUL TIPS

  • I use these tanning drops mixed in with my face lotion every other night to tan my face. Since I’m breakout prone, this is what I prefer!
  • I strongly recommend using lotion/soaps that don’t contain harmful chemicals like parabens and sulfates. These can actually strip your tan and make it streaky over time! The lotion from this pack is what I use! This brand is my favorite for hand and body lotion – so good!
  • Take short showers when you can. I wash my hair twice a week at most and those showers where I don’t wash my hair, I’m in and out in a quick minute to avoid any excess water washing way my tan!
  • Exfoliate before you shave and do it at the end of your shower. This ensures your hair is as soft as it can be so you can get as close a shave as possible!

Happy Wednesday friends! Half way through the week! Kev and I are staying busy with our home to do’s and trying to stick to our schedules, lol! Always easier said than done. Like I mentioned Monday, I started that new group fitness challenge to keep me motivated and Kev and I are opening windows and getting outside when we can!

Monday afternoon we took a walk down to the parkway. We only saw a couple of people (from a far distance of course!). But it was good to get out and enjoy some of the sun + fresh air! It’s so important for our overall health to get out and get moving. Even if it’s just for a few minutes a day, and you’re just walking around your neighborhood!

3 Easy Tips to Stay Happy, Healthy & Motivated While at Home

Happy Monday my loves! How did the first full week of quarantine go last week? Are we all staying productive while also not going too stir crazy? ha! Given I’ve been working at home for a few years, the biggest difference for me is getting used to Kevin’s being here 24/7. It’s definitely been just a bit of a distraction, lol! On Thursday, we started working in different rooms and turning off the news during the day, which both helped A LOT. We’re doing a few other things to make sure we don’t go crazy during this time and thought I’d share in case it could help a few of you too!


make & stick to a schedule

This is super important and something I definitely slacked on at the beginning of last week. During a “normal” week, we follow a “normal” schedule right? Go to bed about the same time, wake at the same time and follow the same schedule pretty much every day. It’s important to do that during this time at home as well. One, it’ll give you some normalcy considering everything that’s happening in the world right now. Two, it’ll help you stay productive during the day, which makes you feel fulfilled and gives your life purpose. When you start lacking purpose and direction, feelings of doubt, depression and anxiety can creep in. Mix that with the obvious isolation we are experiencing and it’s a recipe for disaster.

So, try to stick to your normal schedule as much as possible. For us, that means, going to bed at a regular time (10-11PM), waking up like normal, working out and getting ready for our day like we would if we were going out. You know – shower, makeup (for me lol) and change your clothes. Even if you’re just putting on different sweats, at least change so your body is ready to start a new day. And, also because it’s hygienic lol.


get moving!

This kinda goes with the tip above. On days when I don’t work out in the morning, I feel so sluggish and lethargic by the afternoon. I can even sleep longer, and I still feel the same way. Moving our bodies gets the blood flowing and gets us energized for the rest of the day! Plus, it promotes overall health, which is something we all should be focusing on right now! And, it doesn’t have to be a super intense workout. Taking a walk on “lunch” can totally count like we did today! Just make sure you’re 6ft from all other peeps.

One of my good girlfriends, who is a fitness guru & also about to be a nurse, runs private fitness groups where she provides custom workouts, meal plans and guides! I just signed up for one because tbh, I need some accountability. All this lounging and access to quarantine snacks is too tempting lol!! make a social distancing/quarantine “to do”

There are a LOT of changes happening in our world right now. And, it’s really important that we all do our part, stay home and distance ourselves from others as much as possible. That being said, there’s only so much Netflix and chill you can do. I love being lazy, I’ll admit it, but even I get bored laying around. Plus, it’s good to have projects to work on. It goes back to that thing I mentioned about having purpose being good for your mental and physical health!

Kevin and I are really focusing on our house projects during this time. Up until now, we’ve always been so “busy”. Trips, holidays, more trips, migraines – there never seemed to be time to just sit down and focus on the house. So we sat down and really got to work at that list we made back in January. Already, I’ve almost finished off the living room (waiting for a few more pieces to arrive, new items I put up yesterday are HERE!). We are about to start our kitchen mini-reno after Pinteresting all weekend, and Kevin’s working hard to get estimates for our new fence in the back yard!

This time can easily get into a monotonous – work, snack, work, snack, binge watch netflix, eat more, sleep, repeat – schedule. Without being able to go out, see friends, go to our local breweries and do our usual thang, it’s important that we create a space at home that can be fun, new and exciting.

Other ways to fill your time would be to start a new book series, order a few board games to play with your SO or fam, try a few new makeup or hair tutorials, start a new hobby (candle making is relatively affordable and easy!), learn a new language or purge your closet for spring – heck purge EVERYTHING like we’re doing lol. Every other day or so Kevin and I are picking one spot in the house to declutter. If you follow on stories, you know I can be a bit messy, oops! So far we’ve done the office (in general, don’t get me started on the desk, makeup or dresser drawers lol), kitchen counters, cabinet under the kitchen sink and living room.


There is SO much we can do during this period to keep us occupied! Our lives are typically soo chaotic. Constantly running somewhere, late for something and cramming 80000 things into 24 hours. Use this time to SLOW down. You likely don’t “have” to be anywhere any given night or weekend now. Try to view that in a positive light. For the first time, in a long time, I’m realizing how nice life is at a slower pace. In my spiritual studies, I’ve been taught to be thankful for everything – the good and the bad. And although I wish the circumstances were drastically different, that we weren’t facing this crisis that we are, I am thankful that it’s forced all of us to slow down and remember what’s important – our health, our loved ones and the time we have here!

My Fave Loungewear

Happy Wednesday friends! AKA day 3 of quarantine. Are we all surviving? I’m trying to keep things as normal and as positive as possible around here so we all have a place to escape what’s happening! I do hope we’re all practicing social distancing and hunkering down when possible. It’s important that we all do our part so that we can keep this virus from spreading.

Kev and I have pretty much been hanging at home since last Friday. We’re going a bit stir crazy so we’ve come up with a list of things to do to keep us busy. I’ll be sharing that Friday! We’re also sharing a fun “workout” you can do on stories today. Lol, stay tuned! Anyway, I wanted to share some of the loungewear I’ve picked up to see me through the next few weeks.

I definitely don’t advocate for living in loungewear all the time when working from home (more on that Friday), but considering we’ll be literally lounging the majority of our nights and weekends from now on, I thought I should probably pick up a few new pieces – haha! Almost everything here is on sale or under $40!! I got a XS or S in everything – it all fits TTS. For reference, “Cropped” items I size up in so they have normal length!

Fave Denim Under $30

Happy Saturday friends! We are finally all settled and back into our routine since coming home from Costa Rica. We had such a good trip! It was so good to get away and relax, especially after the last few months of migraines – seriously took a lot out of me! I started month two of my new migraine treatment, and it seems to be going well. I’ll include more of an update in my next newsletter (sign up here).

For now, I wanted to share some great affordable pieces for spring! All pairs of denim are from the Sofia Vergara line at Walmart, which we all love, and are under $30! This pair is always a follower favorite & I now have it in 3 washes – so good! The perfect amount of comfort & stretch without losing its shape. I grabbed the new light wash for spring/summer along with two more pairs! Giving a full review of each pair below & a video review on stories today!

The tie-dye sweater & sandals I’m wearing are also from Walmart! This sweater is perfect for spring. It’s super light weight and I love the light green + white for this time of year. It’s really versatile & goes with any of these jeans! Walmart has SO many cute new arrivals for spring right now!! They have a ton of really good sandals & swimsuits. And, I’ve found some super cute dresses too if you have events coming up! I’ll be sharing a big haul this coming week of some other finds too!

This is the pair I have in all three washes – light, dark and medium. So comfy & very flattering! Although they’re labeled as curvy I think they work on most every body shape as I’m petite & not curvy. They now come in short & tall as well, but I got regular so that they’re full length!

This is a great pair of affordable boyfriend jeans! Very soft, worn in denim type of feel. The holes also aren’t very “open” so they won’t rip easily and don’t show a lot of skin. Come in short & tall – I’m wearing short here. I would recommend sizing down, I could do a 00. They have some stretch.

The destructed ankle & wash of these jeans reminds me of some of my designer pairs, which I love cause they’re only $24! Very comfy & high waisted so they hold it all in. Love all the attention to detail. They do not come in different lengths, but since they’re ankle length, they work for petites.
