I swear, sometimes I feel like the Today show must know my blog post schedule. Earlier this week, I watched a segment on styling faux fur when I had this post scheduled for today. I mean, I guess great minds think alike, right? 😜
Either way you spin it, faux fur is a huge trend right now and will be sticking around for the foreseeable future! Kind of like Victorian collars, I initially wasn’t sure if I was cut out for this trend. But, being in a cold-weather area, I wanted a stylish coat to wear that was different from my down jacket or regular wool coat. And despite my love for faux fur/leopard print when I was 7 years old, I wasn’t sure how my adult self would look in it. It seemed too high fashion for me. And, faux fur has this stigma of being rather “cheap” looking. But, it’s come a long way since the 90’s and is definitely a trend to be embraced.
If you’re on the fence about the faux fur movement, don’t worry! For today’s post, we’ll discuss some pointers on styling this trend. I’ve also gathered 5 faux fur coats under $50 so you can “test drive” the trend without breaking the bank.
Although different colored/multi-colored fur is ULTRA trendy, feel free to stick to the basics to start! You’re always safe pairing your faux fur coat with neutrals or a monochromatic look. This means wearing a neutral color underneath (like my denim + black top here). Or you could wear a monochromatic outfit under your fur (all black, all white etc) for an instantly easy, chic look. A faux fur coat is meant to be part of the outfit. This means that you can and should wear the coat when you’re inside. If it gets too warm, take it off and show of your fabulous outfit underneath! However, keep in mind that a faux fur coat is, by definition, a statement making piece.
This faux fur coat from Forever 21 that I’m wearing is dangerously close to being sold out and for good reason. It’s $44 and is oversized without being awkwardly boxy! I’m wearing a size S, and it fits TTS (true to size). I’ve paired it with a neutral look underneath; however, it would also be perfect with an all-black look. A warning, it does shed so exercise caution in what you wear OR just bring a lint roller with you (because that’s super convenient LOL).
And because this one is close to being sold out, this coat as well as this one are very similar alternatives and also below $50!
Coat (similar, similar)| Jeans | Boots (sold out – similar) | Wrap top (sold out – similar on SALE for under $40!)
Here are four other amazing faux fur options under $50
- Leopard Faux Fur – have my eye on this one. Someone think of an excuse for me to “need” it 😏
- Shaggy/Teddy Faux Fur – the ultimate blogger chic
- Long Line Faux Fur; Option One, Option Two – the most practical style!
- Pink Faux Fur – for those ultra-trendy ladies
For those that don’t know, SheIn is like a Forever 21 equivalent. Be sure to read reviews/look at the sizing guides to ensure you’re ordering the correct size! It’s a perfect site for buying trendy pieces on a budget.
I hope everyone had a great end to their week! Kevin gets home today after being gone for work all week so I’m pretty darn excited to see him! Tonight, we’re meeting some friends and heading to a bar downtown for the Ale Asylum launch party. Ale Asylum is one of my and Kev’s favorite Wisconsin breweries and, up until now, they haven’t sold in Minnesota. I actually just picked up almost $100 worth of their beer when I was back home so we could stock up for winter (lol). We’re obviously big fans, and we obviously were born and raised in Wisconsin. For those that don’t know, Wisconsin is one of the states with more bars than grocery stores per capita. Loving beer is pretty much a part of Wisconsin culture. And, although we definitely don’t drink like we did in college, we do enjoy an IPA or two on the weekends. 😉
Have a great weekend everyone!
