Having lived in a colder climate my whole life, I never used to think about wearing dresses or skirts past mid-October. When it’s 20-30° outside, with the wind howling, having your legs exposed isn’t always appealing, and I’ll be the first to admit that. But there’s something inherently feminine about wearing a skirt. When I have a dress or skirt on, I instantly feel more confident and almost sexy 😝  And if it gets cooler in your area, you should be able to wear what makes you feel good year-round (at least in my opinion). That’s why I’m bringing you 3 ways to style a skirt for cooler weather so you can be at liberty to wear your entire wardrobe no matter the weather!

3 tips to styling a skirt for cooler weather:
  1. Pair with a longer sleeved top:
    1. In summer, we wear skirts with tank tops, crop tops etc. but in cooler weather feel free to switch this up. To make a skirt instantly cool weather ready, pair it with a longer sleeved top. For this outfit, I’m wearing a white bell sleeved top I got from Loft. You could also wear it with a chunky sweater for even cooler weather or to make the look more casual.
  2. Layer up!
    1. Because parts of your limbs will be exposed to the (sometimes) freezing temps, it’s easy and almost necessary to layer up. However, don’t feel like your only option is to wear tights under your skirt. You could also layer by wearing longer socks with booties or by wearing an oversized chunky cardigan. In addition, you could wear a cardigan and tights together for those super cold days.
  3. Accessorize:
    1. I don’t know about you, but when I think of fall/winter fashion I often think of boots. I love my boots way more than I like summer sandals or flats because I just find them to be much more of a statement making piece for an outfit. If you’re looking to wear a skirt in cooler weather, consider pairing it with booties, taller boots or even over-the-knee boots. This will quite literally cover more of your legs to protect against the elements, but also make any skirt look perfect for the fall/winter.

For this outfit, I paired a white bell-sleeved top from Loft with a corduroy skirt from Forever 21. Both pieces I purchased last year, but both are still very in style this year as it’s hard to find many in stock. I opted to go for booties v. over-the-knee boots because I already had a 70’s type vibe going on with the sleeves + corduroy and, while wearing the OTK boots, I felt it was just a little too much. Paired with cross-body bag like this velvet one from Target, this outfit is perfect for a fall date night or night out with the girls! I’ve linked alternatives for my outfit above and in the widget below.
